The Gillett DNA Project
including the spellings of Gilet,
Gillette, Gelette, Jellet, and all other reasonable spelling variants
Frequently Asked
Questions
This is still a very new project and nobody has ever asked me anything,
except "How do I join?" I expect the list to grow as the project
proceeds.
How do I join?
To join, all you need is a direct-line male descendant of your
ancestor-of-interest who is willing to submit a sample of his
DNA. FamilyTreeDNA has all the details on how to order this test
and submit it to them on their website.
What information
do I need to submit to the GillettDNA web site?
Once you have your test kit in, or soon after you receive the results,
send to GillettGenealogy AT yahoo DOT com your five-digit test kit
number, along with a direct-line male pedigree from your earliest
documented ancestor up to 1900. I am stopping the pedigrees at
1900 in order to keep information about living people off the internet.
How far back do I
need to document my ancestry to participate in a DNA study?
While it would be helpful to know as much as you can about your
ancestors, all you need to know to participate is that you are a
direct-line male descendant of a Gillett, which simply means that your
last name is Gillet, Gillett, Gillette, Jellet, or any reasonable
spelling variant.
Does it hurt to
have my DNA tested?
No. The test is done by swiping cheek cells from the inside of
your mouth. No blood is drawn. The test kit will explain.
