John⁵ GILCHRIST (John^4, Alexander³, Alexander², William¹) was born in Cumbernauld, Dumbartonshire, SCT. 25 Jun 1866. John died 6 May 1943 in Dunedin, NZ, at 76 years of age. His body was interred 8 May 1943 in Oamaru, NZ, Oamaru Cemetery.

He married Grace MCGREGOR in Oamaru, NZ, 27 Mar 1891. Grace was born in Cape Colony, South Africa 1868. Grace was the daughter of John MCGREGOR and Helen RITCHIE. Grace died 27 Jun 1956 in Dunedin, NZ, at 87 years of age. Her body was interred 30 Jun 1956 in Oamaru, NZ, Oamaru Cemetery.

John GILCHRIST and Grace MCGREGOR had the following children:

i. Alexander GILCHRIST was born 29 Jan 1892.

ii. Grace GILCHRIST was born 19 Apr 1894.

iii. John GILCHRIST was born 27 Jun 1897.

iv. Helen GILCHRIST was born 15 Feb 1899.

59 vi. Ernest GILCHRIST was born in Oamaru, NZ 5 May 1901. Ernest died 28 Jul 1966 at 65 years of age.

vii. William GILCHRIST was born in Oamaru, NZ 26 Apr 1902. William died 2 Feb 1911 in Oamaru, NZ, at 8 years of age.

viii. Christina GILCHRIST was born 7 Jul 1903.

ix. Evelyn Macgregor GILCHRIST was born in Oamaru, NZ 14 Sep 1905. Eva died 4 Oct 1978 in Dunedin, NZ, at 73 years of age.

x. Catherine GILCHRIST was born in Oamaru, NZ 3 Jun 1907. Catherine died 16 Aug 1944 in Dunedin, NZ, at 37 years of age.
