Gerry's Genealogy

These are a few of my ancestor's surnames:

Andersdatter, Andersen, Andreassen, Carroll, Danielewski, Daniels, Eriksdatter, Goczwelski, Helwick, Johansen, Johnson, Kristiansen, Miller, Sheehan, Ulrichsdatter, Ulriksdatter, Zgozelski

My Norwegian ancestors are mainly from Hedmark and Akershus Fylker.  My great-grandparents (Karl Andreassen Helvig who was born on Helvig farm, Nesodden, Akershus and Karen Andersen who was born at Skutterud, Hedmark) and their three small children (born in Nesodden) were listed on the 1882 Emigration Protocol - Oslo - as was Karl's 77 year old father, Andreas Johansen.  The 1900 Federal Census - Cook County, Illinois - indicates Karen had bore ten children with six children living.  It's assumed the three young children who left Nesodden were lost on the voyage to America.  Karl and Karen began a new family, six of these children grew to adulthood.  By this time the family had changed their surname to Helwick.

My Irish great-grandparents immigrated to Iowa in the mid-1800s.  My great-grandmother, Mary Carroll, and her two sisters immigrated to Burlington with their parents Margaret and Martin Carroll.  Martin Carroll was Naturalized in 1857.  My great-grandfather M. William Sheehan was Naturalized in Des Moines County, Iowa in 1859.  Mary Carroll married M. William Sheehan in 1860.

The German-Polish side of my family arrived in the Detroit area ca. 1890.  Julius Miller and Mary Zgozelski/Goczwelski, my great-grandparents, immigrated to Detroit with two children prior to the birth of their third child in 1886.  Their eldest child, Helena Pauline married Theodore Danielewski/Daniels circa 1892.  The first known record of Theodore is the 1895-96 Detroit City Directory.

This web presents all my known direct-line ancestors and their siblings by generation beginning with myself as Generation Number One.  All are listed on the Name Index page.  Since a farm name rather than a surname sometimes provides the link in our Norwegian research, I've included a list of farm names, located in Akershus and Hedmark Fylker that are associated with my ancestors.
