John T. and his wife, Ella Mae became very active in the then "Denair
Missionary Church" now called the "Denair Friends Church" on Zeering and
Sperry Roads. They did missionary work and supported activities in
retreats, besides teaching in Sunday schools for years. The "Friends
Church" is orthodox and evangelical and is considered "Quaker". It was
established in California in 1895, having come to the United States from
England in the late 17th century and hence from Pennsylvania . The
Quaker were known for their deep devotion to the "simplicity of life".
Their five children were all raised under the churches strict doctrines.
Only three of their eleven grandchildren carried forth the churches
doctrines.
