William Prince was among the very first settlers who came to Port Royal.
He settled within a 1/4 mile of the mouth of Sulphur Fork Creek (at Red
River). There is a large spring there, still called Prices Spring. When
his first wife died, he returned to SC and led a new group to the Port
Royal area. A good part of the earliest settlers came from the
Spartenburg area of S.C. From 1789 until 1797 Prince owned a farm on the
Sulphur Creek. In 1791 he and his wife, Elizabeth, became Charter
Members of Red River Baptist Church. He and his family moved in 1997 to
the area of Princeton, KY. The town was named for him. There he was
active in the formation of Eddy Grove Baptist Church in 1799. See
