JURY TO TRY FLOYD
ALLEN HAS BEEN SWORN
Motion of Defense to Consolidate
Five Murder Indictments Against
Him is Overruled.
Wytheville, Va., May 1. --The jury was sworn tonight to try Floyd Allen, indicted for five murders in the Carroll county court house on March 14 last. For four hours counsel interrogated the string of veniremen and it was long after dark when the sixteenth talesman was found satisfactory. The defense then exercised the four peremptory challenges allotted to it and court adjourned.
Nine farmers and three merchants compose the jury. The defense moved to require the commonwealth to consolidate the five indictments against Floyd Allen, to obviate possibility of five different trials, but Judge Staples overruled motion.
