ALLEN-EDWARDS TRIAL
Will Start at Wytheville for the Mur- der of Massie and Foster
Sidna Allen and Wesley Edwards the noted members of the Allen band yet untried for the murder of the Carroll county, Va., court officials, were arraigned for trial at Hillsville, Va., last Monday in the same court room in which the fatal tragedy occurred on the 14th of last March.
By the consent of the attorneys for both the state and the defense the trials were transferred to Wytheville. Edwards will be tried first beginning Oct. 28th for the murder of Attorney Foster. Sidna Allen will be tried immediately after Edwards for the murder of Judge Massey.
As soon as court adjourned the prisoners were hurried away to Roanoke where they will be kept until the time for trial.
The meeting of Sidna Allen and his wife at Hillsville was pathetic in the extreme. Mrs. Allen is a woman of refinement and the sting of disgrace is keenly felt by her. According to the sentences imposed upon the other members of the Allens it is hardly probable that Sidna will ever see Hillsville again. Edwards may return but many years will likely intervene before he will be able to breathe the air of freedom.
