Will of Henry Gottel
Note: In the process of restructuring my
web site and gathering all the genealogical information I have in
my possession, I came across this transcribed copy of Henry Gottel's will.
I do not know who the transcriber was, nor do I remember where it came
from. It might have been in the papers that Karen Cabler sent to me. If
you read this and are the contributor, please email me so I can give you
the credit for your hard work.
In the name of the Holy Trinity! Amen.
I Henry Gottel, School-Master of Zion's Church in the township
of Brunswick Berks County, having take into consideration the declining
State of this mortal Body, whos Powers by my present sicknesses, are almost
certainly exhausted, altho I perceive no Defect of Reason or Memory, do
make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner following to
wit.
Firstly, I commend my immortal Soul into the Hands of God who
gave it, and my Body to be buried in a Christian like manner among those
of my religious Persuasion.
Secondly, I give and bequeath to my dear wife Philippina of the
Land which I have in Norwegian Township containing all acres three perches
less than Five hundred Acres. That the same land be sold by my Executors,
and that two hundred Pounds shall be put over to Interest for my said Wife,
which interest she shall receive yearly during her life - After her Death
the said two hundred pounds shall fall to all my children. Further, I bequeath
to her, her bed, chest, table, chair, kitchen dresser and such kitchen
furniture as she wants, as also on cow, two hogs, ten bushels of wheat,
ten bushels of rye, all the linen, the outstanding School-money, and what
the Church wardens have in their lists __________ before paying my debts.
She shall also have Bible, Hymnal and Prayer-books. The above interest
she shall have as long as she bears my Name.
Thirdly, I give to my son Christopher von Konigs Chorus-Book,
with all my other notes.
Fourthly, I give to my son Henry, my Spinet, together with the
written Note Book.
Fifthly I give to my son Ludwig, my watch
Sixthly I give to my Daughter, Catharine one year old heifer
Seventhly I ordain in this my Last Will and Testament, as to the Land
in Norwegian Township, that when the same shall be sold by my aforementioned
Executors, and the aforementioned two hundred pounds are paid out to interest
for my wife the residual shall be divided among all my children in equal
shares. Further I ordain by this my will that no appraisement of vendue
shall be held, but my children shall divide the remainder amongst themselves.
Should any children die before this land is sold, these shared shall be
taken by their heirs.
Eighthly, I ordain as Executors of this my testament and Will
my son Henry Gottel and my son in law Christopher Wagner to fulfill all
the aforementioned bequests, and I also empower by said executors, on Sale
of the said land in Norwegian Township, to make a title to purchaser as
if it were from myself.
and
And in order that the foregoing may be considered and fulfilled as
my Last Will and Testament, I do revoke in the presence of Witnesses, and
in sound mind, memory and understanding, all former LEgacies and Bequests
by the heretofore made, in whatsoever Manner or form the same may have
done or executed, declaring that this alone shall be taken and established
as such. In witnesses thereof I have herewith set my Hand and Seal.
Dated the fourth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and seven.
