John first appeared on the Rapho Twp. tax list in 1774 and continued to appear until his death in 1831. Other than the time he served in the military durng the Revolutionary War, he appears to have lived his entire life in Lancaster Co. He inherited part of his father's original estate upon his father's death in 1781 and over the next few years, he added to his holdings.

John died in 1831 and in his will, he named six daughters and an only son. Bunderman does not mention how John's estate was distributed, although he had sold at least part of his land prior to his death.
