Katherine Flory and John Bomberger were both born in Lancaster Co., PA, but appear to have lived much of their adult life in Dauphin Co., PA.

Late in their life, Katherine’s parents came to live with her and John. There appears to have been a contentious relationship between Joseph Flory and his son-in-law. In 1782, an elaborate agreement was drawn up between the two men, spelling out in great detail what farm products and food stuff John Bomberger was to provide to his in-laws, as well as dividing the house between the two families (including sharing the kitchen until a second one could be built!). In return, Joseph deeded his remaining land (approximately 120 acres) to his son-in-law.

Joseph died in 1785, leaving his estate to his wife. After she died (or remarried), the estate was to be equally divided between his seven children. In 1790, Katherine, his widow, was summoned to court to explain her expenses. This was apparently initiated by John Bomberger and his son. Katherine Zollinger Flory died in the fall of 1793, but the estate was not settled until January of 1796.

Katherine and John Bomberger raised a family of seven children (one daughter and six sons), but of their children, we have descendants of only two of them, sons John and Jacob.

Katherine's sister Elizabeth married John's brother Michael.
