George L. Oliver, 95, Rt. 2, Hampton, died Thursday morning at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Bob and Annie Jolley Olliver, a member of Union Baptist Church, and a retired farmer. Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Belle Teague Oliver, in March, 1964, and by a son, James Oliver, in July, 1975. Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Retis Saults, Jackson, S.C., Mrs. Dellis White, Rt. 8, Elizabethton, Mrs. Annie Proffitt, Knoxville, Mrs. Gladys Ward, Rt. 2, Hampton, Mrs. Kathleen Kelley, Albuquerque, N.M., and Mrs. Sue Johnson, Jacksonville, Fla., and four sons, Johnny Oliver, Orchard St., Elizabethton, George Oliver, Jr., Paul Oliver and Robert Oliver all of Rt. 2, Hampton. Thirty grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Funeral services for George L. Oliver, 95, Rt. 2, Hampton, who died Thursday morning at his residence, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday from Union Baptist Church with Rev. Floyd Ishee and Rev. Haskell Ingram, Jr., officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Church Choir. Interment will follow in the Oliver Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Haynes Norris, Gary Shingleton, Clyde Moore, Sanford Morton, Gerald Stevens and Ronald Pierce. The family will receive friends in the chapel of the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday, at which time it will be taken to the Church to await the service hour. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Eva Oliver, 65, of Route 2, Hampton, died at the residence Thursday evening, following an illness of three years. A native of Carter County, she was a member of the Union Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, George Oliver of the home; five sons, Jim and George Oliver, Jr. of Hampton; Johnny Oliver of Orchard Street, Elizabethton; Bud and Bob Oliver of the home; six daughters, Mrs. William Proffitt, Orchard Street, Elizabethton; Mrs. Tom Saults of Jackson, S.C.; Mrs. Troy White of Route 7, Elizabethton; Mrs. Ira Ward of Route 1, Hampton; Mrs. Doyle Kelley of Jacksonville, Fla.; and Miss Linda Sue Oliver of Winter Haven, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Emma Carden of Elizabethton; a brother, Chase Teague of Route 1, Hampton; twenty
grandchildren and four great grandchildren survive. Tetrick Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Funeral services for Mrs. Eva. B. Oliver will be held 2 p.m. Saturday from the Union Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Haskell Ingram Jr. Music by the church choir. The body will be returned to the home at 5 p.m. Friday and removed to the church at noon Saturday to await the service hour. Active pallbearers will be P.F. Smith, G.M. Campbell, Donald Lewis, Ed Lewis, Clyde Campbell, Willard Rainbolt, Haskell Ingram Sr., and Herman Johnson. Flower bearers will be Ladies of the church. Interment will be at Family Cemetery. Tetrick Funeral Home in charge of funeral arrangements.

Johnnie S. Oliver

Johnnie S. Oliver, 74, 137 Daniel Lane, Elizabethton, died Thursday, November 23, 2000, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. Oliver was a native of Carter County and the son of the late George and Eva Teague Oliver. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, James Oliver, George Oliver Jr. and Robert Carl Oliver, and two sisters, Dellis White and Annie Proffitt.
Mr. Oliver was a retired painter from Gardner Paint Service, Inc.
He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force, and a member of Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166.
Survivors include his wife, Manilla Oliver, of the home; a son, Larry "Butch" Oliver, Elizabethton; a grandson, Johnny Scott Oliver, Elizabethton; a great-grandson, Johnny Scott Oliver II, Elizabethton; a brother, William Paul "Bud" Oliver, Hampton; and four sisters, Retis Saults, Jackson, S.C., Gladys Ward, Elizabethton, Kathleen Kelley and Linda Sue Rogoshewski, both of Jacksonville, Fla. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Thursday

Mrs. Vina Jane Wilson 81 of Route 7, Elizabethton, died at 4:00 am Thursday following an illness of four months. She died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Clarence Berry of Route 7, Elizabethton where she made her home. She was a native of Carter County and a member of the Union Baptist Church. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Bertie McNabb, Mrs. Otis Bryant of Johnson City; Mrs. Clarence Berry of Elizabethton and Mrs. Tine Potter of Akron, Ohio; three sons, Will Wilson of Butler, Carl Wilson and Fate Wilson of Hampton; one sister, Mrs. E.G. roark of Johnson City; three brothers, Jim, Hooker and George Oliver of Hampton; twenty-seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Tetrick Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements. Funeral services for Mrs. Vina Jane Wilson will be held at 2 pm Saturday from the Union Baptist Church at Hampton. Officiating will be the Rev. G.H. Glass and Rev. W.W. Ward. Music by the Hardin Brothers Quartet. The body was returned to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Clarence Berry, of Route 7, Elizabethton, at 4 pm Thursday, and will be lie in state until the service hour. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Flower bearers: Granddaughters and nieces. Interment will be made at the Morton Cemetery. Tetrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

• Obituary

ELIZABETHTON — William Paul “Bud” Oliver, 67, 183 Oliver Hollow Road, Hampton, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mr. Oliver was a Carter County native and a son of the late George and Eva Teague Oliver. He retired from Hampton Tire & Recapping Co. Mr. Oliver was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Oliver, Jimmy Oliver, Johnny Oliver and George Oliver Jr.; and two sisters, Dellis Oliver and Annie Oliver. Survivors include two sons, Paul Oliver and Tony Joe Oliver, both of Hampton; one daughter, Angelia Oliver, Trade; four sisters, Gladys Ward, Elizabethton, Kathleen Kelley and Sue Rogashewski, both of Jacksonville, Fla., and Retis Saults, Jackson, S.C.; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and one great-nephew.

Graveside services for William Paul “Bud” Oliver, 67, 183 Oliver Hollow Road, Hampton, who died Saturday, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in the Oliver-Teague Cemetery with the Rev. Haskel Ingram and the Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow the service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at his residence. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Monday.
