First Generation  

Research is being done in linking with the line of Jacob Birkle who came over on the Mary in 1733. He was the father of John Jacob Pirkle who lived in Rockingham County, NC. John Jacob was the father of the George Pirtle who lived in Spartenburg, South Carolina before settling in White County, TN. White County was established in 1806. This George Pirtle had a son born in South Carolina named Isaac. DeKalb County was part of White County until 1837. George and Isaac are listed in the 1830 U.S. Census for White County, Tennessee and George is listed in the 1820 U.S. Census of White County, along with John Pirtle, Matthew Pirtle and Samuel Purtle. An older son of George Pirtle, Jacob Pirtle, had moved to White County by 1825 because he, too, is in the Tax List for that year. Also included in the 1830 U.S. Census are John Pirtle, Sr., John Pirtle, Jr., Jacob Pirtle and Elijah Pirtle.

Isaac married Nancy G. HOOPER ^6,7,8, daughter of Edward HOOPER and Mary Goodlett SCOTT, on October 12, 1826 ⁵. (Nancy G. HOOPER was born on October 27, 1807 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina ⁵.)

+ 4 M    iii. John Lafayette PIRTLE ^6,7,11 was born on June 16, 1833 in Dekalb County, Tennessee ¹², died on June 24, 1899 in Tennessee ¹³ and was buried in Young Bend Cemetery.

   5 M    iv. G. W. PIRTLE was born before 1836.

   6 F    v. Susannah PIRTLE was born about 1836.
