Most of the Shacklett descendants in the United States come from Benjamin Shacklett and his two wives, Sarah Blancette and Catherine Tucker. Benjamin was the firstborn son of John Shacklet/Shekerlie/Shakalit, believed to be a Frenchman born with the name Jenade Jacquelot. The story goes that the family's name came to be spelled Shacklett in America, spelled much as Jacquelot was pronounced.
Benjamin and Sarah had one son, John Shacklett who married Barbara Quick. This family was early pioneers in Hardin (later Meade) County, Kentucky. By his second wife, Catherine Tucker, Benjamin had a number of children, one named Edward Shacklett (1758 - 1826) married Elizabeth Rector and had 15 children and formed the beginnings of the family in Virginia.
