Wind River Country - Few places can lay claim to culture as rich in western lore as Wind River Country. You can still walk the wagon ruts on South Pass, visit the gravesite of Sacajawea in Fort Washakie and ride the same trails as Butch Cassidy.

The State name: Legh Freeman, publisher of "The Frontier Index" in Kearny, Nebraska, claimed that it was he who first suggested Wyoming as the name for this portion of the Dakota Territory. Wyoming comes from the Dakota "mscheweamiing" meaning "at the big flats" or "large plains." |
