SUSAN SEARLES
Just south of Elba Nebraska in Howard Co.,on highway #11 is a small c
emetary. It is there that my greatgrandparent are intered. The firs t
time I visited this place was in about 1936. My father RICHARD DUTC HER
took the family to the cemetary to show us where his grandparent s were
buried. He also took us into Elba and showed us the little hou se that
they had lived in in their last years. I was about 12 years o f age at
this time. My father was about 11 years of age when his gran dmother
Susan died. he recalled being taken to see his grandmothe r a couple of
years earlier. He was about 18 when his grandfather die d, but had see
him several times.
Theodore Dutcher was a Civil War veteran. I was always enamoured by t he
civil war and had read much about it. My research in genealogy ha d only
increased this interest.
