	To His Excellency
		Sir Peregrine Maitland K.C.B.
	Lieutenant Governor of the Province of Upper
	Canada and Major General Commanding
	His Majesty's Forces therein.
				In Council
	The Petition of John Hinton, now of the
	Township of Trafalgar, Farmer,
	Humbly Sheweth,
		That your Petitioner is a native of
	Pembrokeshire in South Wales and came into
	this Province with his Parents in the year
	1807, after residing in the United States
	eleven years.  That he has a Wife and three
	children, that having the means to cultivate
	a new farm he is desirous to become a Settler,
	that he has taken the Oath of Allegiance required
	by Law, and has never received any land or order
	for Land from the Crown.
		Wherefore Your Petitioner prays
	that your Excellency may be pleased to grant him
	an allotment of Land as a Settler, subject
	to the payment of fees under the present
	Regulations.
		And Petitioner will ever pray

The bearer /John Hinton/ was a private
in my company of the Patr 2o Reg 2
of Y- Mi_a (York Militia)----- I do not recollect that he
ever when call on to do duty as a mi
litiaman refused the command of his
officer - he was once required by me du
ring the war to march with the com-
pany to the lines but from some dis
ability /I think it was a cut on his foot/
did not go - on other occasions I be-
lieve he always stood his draft with this
company.

I do hereby certify that the bearer (John
Hinton) is an inhabitant of the Township
of Trafalgar & has occupyed Lot No. 23 in
the 3rd concession in the said Township about
four years.  I believe he has demeaned
himself properly during the late war with 
the United States and has never absented him
self from his place of residence.
