      RAMEY

Presented: as written in Tax Record; however, districts were sometimes deduced from the names contained therein which changed little from year to year. In some cases the tax commissioner was identified by his handwriting.
The "s" following a number indicates shilling, the "d" indicates pence. (12 pence = 1 shilling)

Pounds, Shillings, and pence were last used in 1798. After this Dollars and cents were used.

NOTE: For 1787-1790, 1792 the number in the first column is white male tithables over 21.
For 1791, 1793-1816 the number in the first column is white male tithables over 16.
The number in the second column in 1787 is number of white males above 16 and under 21.
After 1787 the first number following a zero indicates the number of "horses, mares, colts, etc."
The Rameys did not own slaves, stud horses, etc. - property indicated by zeros below.

NOTE: Scott County was formed in 1814, in part from Russell County. By 1817 all the above Rameys were listed on the Scott County tax lists. Scott County collected taxes starting in 1815.
There may have been some confusion regarding boundary lines for a year or two, then again James and Daniel Ramey may have moved into Scott County about 1816.

1817-1832.....No Rameys were listed on Russell County, VA tax lists.
I also scanned the 1833-1850 tax lists and don't recall seeing Rameys listed then either.
