I, Isome Belcher of Tazewell County and the Sate of Virginia having arrived to an advanced period of life, consequently feeling the infirmities of age deem it expedient while having the exercise of my reason to make my last will and testament which is as follows;

In the first place I will that my body be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter to be named and that my funeral expenses and debts (if any) be paid out of my estate by myexecutor.

I give and bequeath to each of my children to wit: Phoebe, Obediah, John, Jessee, & Nancy one dollar to be paid out of my estate In like manner in the next place I give and bequeath to the balance of my children viz:

Isome, Micaga, Jude, Asa, Henry, Moses, James, Jonathan & Robert all my horse, property, cattle, hogs, sheep, & geese, all my farm utensils, all my

furniture, & one loom to be enjoyed and possessed equally by them and their heirs forever.

I also give to my son Isome a certain tract or parcel of land in Tazewell County known by Iyrs improvement on the Laurel fork of Brushy Creek, quantity of acres not recollected to be enjoyed and possessed by him and

his heirs forever.

I also give and bequeath to my three young sons, James, Jonathan, & Robert the tract of land I now live on lying at the mouth of the Laurel fork of Brushy Creek containing 170 acres and a small tract or parcel of land on

Brush Creek & joining the tract will to son Isome quantity not recollected to be enjoyed and possessed equally by them and their heirs forever.

The above estate is to be at my disposal during my natural life.

Lastly, I nominate and appoint John Davidson and Henry Bailey Executors of this my last will and testament.

[not sure if this is George the father or another George.] He served in the military between 20 Jan 1777 to 29 Feb 1780 in Virginia.1 George served for a period of three years and served in Captain James Fosters' company in the 15th Virginia regiment commanded by Lt. Col. James Innes.

This is what she says: "I do know that the Mary/Maryan who married George Belcher was NOT the daughter of Josiah and Elizabeth because Josiah named his daughter Maryan in a deed of gift in the 1820's as "Maryan Rogers".á I wrote an article for the Fugate Family Newsletter a while back suggesting the possibility that the Maryan who m. He was in court in Jun 1815 in Floyd County, Kentucky.10 This 3rd day of June 1815, came James Adkins before me, Spencer Adkins, one of the Commonwealths Justice of the Peace in and for the County of Floyd and State of Kentucky, and made oath that he lost one certain mare, her color was black, and perhaps one saddle mark white or curled hair and she left himself one wart on her left ear and age is about 8 years old and in about this spring I James Adkins do certify that I traded mare above mentioned. The said mare left me, was in and about the 10th of May in the year 1814, and Jane Ross was a witness. Be it known that the above mentioned mare had one certain bell that I had about 15 years, it had a double strap wtih leather like old stirrup leather...The 13th day of June came John Belcher before me, Spencer Adkins, J.P. and made oath that he hear James Belcher buy of Charles Drake one certain black mare that strayed away from James Adkins could ever was found and said that the same mare above mentioned he saw in the possession in and about the 11th or 12th of May of Gorden Cloyds, and the said mare was to be the said James Belcher's own property.

In the first place I will that my body be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter to be named and that my funeral expenses and debts (if any) be paid out of my estate by my executor. I give and bequeath to each of my children to wit: Phoebe, Obediah, John, Jessee, & Nancy one dollar to be paid out of my estate In like manner in the next place I give and bequeath to the balance of my children viz: Isome, Micaga, Jude, Asa, Henry, Moses, James, Jonathan & Robert all my

Brushy Creek containing 170 acres and a small tract or parcel of land on Brush Creek & joining the tract will to son Isome quantity not recollected to be enjoyed and possessed equally by them and their heirs forever.

The above estate is to be at my disposal during my natural life. Lastly, I nominate and appoint John Davidson and Henry Bailey Executors of this my last will and testament.

Mitchell CLAY was born in 1735 in Henrico County, Virginia.8,7 He served in the military about 10 Oct 1774.7 Mitchell was a soldier in the army of General Andrew Lewis at Battle of Point Pleasant, Oct. 10, 1774. He was living in 1785 in Mercer County, West Virginia.7 The Shawnee Massacre occured here in 1785 in which two of his children were killed (Bartley and Tabitha) and Ezekiel was taken prisoner and burned at a stake in Chllicothe, Ohio. Mitchell then moved to or near Pearisburg, Virginia. He died in 1812 in Franklin County, Virginia.9 He owned 803 acres of land bet. 1774 & 1775. in Mercer County, West Virginia.7 Mitchell obtained a Crown Grant from Lord Baltimore, who was then royal Government of Virginia for 803 acres of land on Bluestone Creek near what is now Lake Shawnee, near Princeton, Mercer County, West Virginia. He moved there in 1775. He was living Revolutionary War in Clover Bottom, Montgomery County, Virginia.7

I give and bequeath to each of my children to wit: Phoebe, Obediah, John, Jessee, & Nancy one dollar to be paid out of my estate In like manner in the next place I give and bequeath to the balance of my children viz: Isome, Micaga, Jude, Asa, Henry, Moses, James, Jonathan & Robert all my

The above estate is to be at my disposal during my natural life. Lastly, I nominate and appoint John Davidson and Henry Bailey Executors of this my last will and testament.

She was married to Dodridge BAILEY (son of ) on 23 Apr 1812 in Tazewell County, Virginia.16 Dodridge BAILEY was born in 1788 in Augusta County, Virginia. He died in Aug 1872 in Calhoun County, West Virginia. 1.DODDRIDGE BAILEY

Doddridge Bailey was born in Augusta County VA in 1788 and died in Calhoun County WV in August 1872. On April 12, 1813, in Tazewell County, VA, he married Phebe Belcher, a daughter of Isham and Patsy (Hodges) Belcher. Phebe died in Calhoun county March 18, 1866.

Apparently, the Baileys had as many as eight children, since the 1830 census for Tazewell County, VA lists the family as having eight children under age 15. The family was listed in the Logan County VA (WV) census in 1850 and in the 1860 census of Calhoun County VA (WV).

They probably came to Calhoun about 1856, since Hardesty's History of Calhoun County says that one son, William W., arrived in that year. Information is available for only five of the Bailey children and no birth or death dates have surfaced for the others as of this writing.

In the 1860 census of Calhoun County, the Bailey's were listed as a household. In the 1870 census, Phebe had died and Doddridge was living at the home of his son. Phebe died March 18, 1866 and Doddridge died in August of 1872.
