18 Feb 1905  P. J. Belcher of Welch passed through Bluefield yesterday on his wa to Summers county, where he will spend several weeks recuperating from injuries he sustained at Nolan Jan 28, by being run down by a train and his companion H.C. Wade of Franklin Co. was killed.

The death of Sallie Belcher age 70 occurred at the home of her son William on the mountain near Welch Sunday NIght. she belonged to one of the oldest families in McDowell County. She had been confined to her bed for more than two years. and while death is sad , and we all look forward to the
time our earthly existence will ease with dread, the suffering she ahd borne and the knowledge that she could never again be well, must have made it easier for her to cross the divide. The remains were interred yesterday on Belcher Mountain, near the place where she had suffered and died.

City Sergeant George Belcher and Mayor Frank Sizemore went out hunting las night and met with wonderful Success.  They killed a bird which they thought was a turkey. on Examination the fowl was found to be a guinea belonging to a dusky maid who assessed them 50 cents damages, which the sergeant assisted to pay but maintains that the mayor did the act.

Carl Belcher of the south side is a patient in the McMIllan Hospital with typhoid fever. He is said to be improving. Belcher is a member of the line crew of the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co.

Mrs Nancy Belcher one fo the oldest women in the Kanawha Valley died at her home at Marmet last night she was said to ahve been 100 years old and a widow. Her death was due to complications to old age. Funeral services will be held at the home and interment will be made in the family burying ground.

Belcher Arested
Justice C. W. Dering issued a warrant for the arrest of Henry Belcher of Crown Hill, Charging him with a felony. Belcher is alleged to have embezzled $203 of the funds of the local Union of the United Mine Workers where he worked as treasurer.

Henry Belcher is now being held in county jail awaiting examination, having been brought to police headquarters las night at 12 o'clock, Two unidentified men walked into the station, they said Belcher had been following them. They said if they run Belcher would do the same or walk and he would do the same, or hop and he would do the same. they went into the police station hoping he would follow them and he did.

Kentucky:

One Killed, One Hurt in Affray Near Harlan Kentucky.
Third Shooting in Vicinity in Past forty-Eight hours. Quarrel started over joking
each other.

George Belcher 23, is dead, and Jesse Pace 35 is probably fatally wounded, as a result of a shooting affray yesterday afternoon at the had of Straight Creek. This is the third shooting in the Vicinity of Harlan in the last forty eight hours and seven persons have lost their lives and two are probably fatally shot as teh result of three shootings.
Details are rather meager on the Belcher/Pace shooting, as there is no telephone there and news came through officers in Harlan and Pineville, but it is understood that the shooting was a result of a quarrel which started with the two men joking each other.
Belcher is said to have drew his gun and shot Pace down. Pace then drew his gun and killed Belcher. Pace was a former policeman at Harlan and then a deputy sheriff at Benham.

Mr. Jack Belcher died at his home in Brownville this morning, the Case is a perculiar one, Belcher killed Gus Wells at a dance four years ago and was sentenced for life. Two years ago a land slide occurred in a mine in which Belcher was working and disabled him. he was never pardoned but the state allowed him to be placed in the hands of relatives. He is respectably connected in Brownville, and much sympathy is felt for his family.

John Belcher is his name and ten thousand dollars is the sum which he has fallen heir to.
Mr. Belcher is one of the oldest and best workemn in the employment of Hunnictt and Bellingrath. A month ago Mr Belcher learned two weeks ago a distant relative in Columbus Georgia had died quite wealthy.
Last week Mr Belcher asked for leave of absence for a few days and he went down to Columbus.
Mr Belcher went back to his old place at Hunnicutt and Bellingrath's and there he will remain for some time to come but witha  ten thousand dollar standing in the world.
