Note: On Broadfoot list as Jefferson for the 20th and Thomas J for Cobb’s Legion. The regiment roster for the 20th lists him as Thomas Jefferson. The muster roll for the 20th is Jefferson, box 226, extraction 5, and record 67. A second entry for Thomas J. is box 226, extraction 5 and record 84 with alternate name of Jefferson. There is still another entry for Thomas of box 226, extraction 5 and record 85 in Cont’s Legion (I believe Cobb’s and Cont’s are the same). I believe the two are the same person. I have no details for his time in the Legion. He enlisted in the 20th GA on 2/22/62. Wounded at Malvern Hill, VA, 7/1/62. Wounded at Battle of the Wilderness, 5/6/64 Captured near Fort Harrison, VA, 9/29/64. Prisoner at Point Lookout, MD Took oath of allegience to US, was released and enlisted in US service 10/17/64. This would have made him a Galvanized Yankee or a Confed that switched. Have not identified the Union regiment that he joined. There were nine Thomas Belchers to Serve in the Union, but can't pin down a Thomas J. Two other Belchers served in Co. G (James and Solomon)and George W. in Co. C. In CWSR for Cobb's and 20th..
