BALLARD SAMUEL, Charlestown, freem. 1680, by w. Lydia had Lydia b. 27 Oct. 1670; John, 23 Nov. 1672; wh. d. at 30 yrs.; and Elizabeth 24 Feb. 1673; and his w. d. 1 May 1678. On 1 Sept. foll. he m. Hannah Belcher, perhaps eldest d. of Andrew the first; wh. d. 14 May 1691; and 4 Sept. foll. he m. third w. Lydia Hale; was a lieut. and d. 12 Nov. 1708, aged 70.
BELCHER, ANDREW, Sudbury 1639, ar. co. 1642, m. 1 Oct. 1639, Elizabeth d. of Nicholas Danforth of Cambridge, and B. rem. thither, was a taverner, had Elizabeth b. 17 Aug. 1640; Jemima, 5 Apr. 1642; Martha, 26 July 1644; Andrew, 1 Jan. 1647; and Ann, 1 Jan. 1649; and he d. 26 June 1680, his w. surv.
Elizabeth m. 31 Mar. 1668, Pyam Blowers;
Jemima m. 5 Dec. 1660, Capt. Joseph Sill;
and Martha m. 13 July 1664, Jonathan Remington, and d. 16 July 1711. But the m. of Samuel Ballard, 1 May 1678, with Hannah Belcher, as his sec. w. is found on rec. and who she was, [[156]] unless the youngest d. is difficult to find.
Ann and Hannah are often, confound.
BELCHER ANDREW, Cambridge, s. of the preced. had traffic at Hartford, there m. 1 July 1670, Sarah, d. of Jonathan Gilbert, had Andrew, b. 12 Mar. 1672, at H. but most of his other ch. as Deborah, wh. d. young shortly bef. her mo. and ano. Deborah wh. d. few weeks after her mo. wh. d. 26 Jan. 1689, Mary, b. 7 Mar. 1680; Ann, 30 Mar. 1684; and Martha, 29 Mar. 1686, were all b. at Charlestown; but Elizabeth 12 Jan. 1678; and Jonathan, 8 Jan. 1682, at Cambridge, H. C. 1699. He was freem. 1677, one of the import. Comtee. of Safety at the insurrect. against Andross, rem. to Boston a. 1702, when he was chos. a Counsel. to his d. 31 Oct. 1717. Ano. d. was Sarah Foye at Charlestown, and she outliv. her f.
Mary m. George Vaughn of Portsmouth, and d. 3 Feb. 1700. He was a prosper. merch. and the ds. m. other great connex.

BELCHER EDWARD, Boston 1630, came, prob. in the fleet with Winthrop was made freem. with prefix of respect, 18 May 1631, and in his latter days prob. for sec. w. m. wid. Wormwood. His No. on the list of ch. mem. is 60, but there his name is in the old copy Edmund.
BELCHER EDWARD, Boston, s. of the preced. m. 8 Jan. 1656, Mary Wormwood, d.-in-law (says the rec.) of Mr. Edward B. sen. had Satisfaction, b. 23 Feb. 1657; and John, 1658; and Mary, 4 Apr. 1659.
BELCHER GREGORY, Braintree, came to Boston 1634, was freem. 13 May 1640, bef. wh. he had assist. in found. of the ch. at Br. had Samuel, b. 24 Aug. 1637; Mary. 8 July 1639; Joseph, 25 Dec. 1641; Gregory, and two other s. earlier or later, and d. 21 June 1659. His wid. Catharine, in her will of 1680, names three s. Josiah, Moses, John, and d. Elizabeth Gilbert, whose h. I cannot guess, if she were m. nor her f. if not; beside Mary Marsh, prob. w. of Alexander, m. 19 Dec. 1655.
BELCHER GREGORY, Braintree, mariner, s. of the preced. had Joseph.
BELCHER JEREMY, Ipswich, came in the Susan and Ellen, 1635, aged 22, freem. 13 Mar 1639, by first w. had Samuel, H. C. 1659; Jeremy; Mary; and John; perhaps more, if she liv. to 1652. But on 30 Sept. of this yr. he made contr. of m. with Mary Lockwood, wh. perhaps was d. of Edmund, by her had Judith, b. 19 Aug. 1658; Mary, 12 July 1660; David, 1662; and Richard, 10 Sept. 1665; and d. Mar. 1693. A wid. B. prob. his, d. Oct. 1700. Mary, d. of the first w. m. 23 June 1662, Joseph Russell.
BELCHER JEREMY, Boston, 1672, perhaps s. of the preced. d. 6 Jan. or Feb. 1722, aged 81 and 1/2 yrs.
BELCHER JOHN, Braintree, by w. Sarah had Sarah, b. 27 June 1656; John, wh. d. 9 Feb. 1659; and John, again, 11 Mar. 1659. Perhaps he was s. of Gregory the first. Joseph, Milton, prob. s. of the first Gregory, by w. Rebecca had (beside Ann and Patience) [[157]] John, b. 1 Apr. 1667; Joseph, 14 May 1668, H. C. 1690, min. of Dedham, wh. d. 27 Apr. 1723; Rebecca, 12 Nov. 1671; Gill, 22 Sept. 1678; and perhaps eldest s. deac. Gregory, wh. d. at Braintree 4 Nov. 1727, aged 63.
BELCHER JOSIAH, Boston, s. of Gregory the first, m. 3 Mar. 1655, Ranis, d. of Edward Rainsford, had Josiah, b. 23 Dec. 1665; John, 9 Oct. 1657, d. soon; John, again, 23 Dec. 1659, d. soon; John, again, 1 Sept. 1661; Elizabeth 10 July 1663; Joseph, 14 Oct. 1665; Rebecca, 21 Dec. 1667; Edward 14 Feb. 1670; Dorothy, 28 Oct. 1673; Abigail, 10 Mar. 1675; Ruth, 21 Dec. 1678; and Benjamin, 20 Mar. 1681. He was one of the found. of third, or O. S. ch. and d. 3 Apr. 1683, aged 52.

BELCHER RICHARD, Ipswich, youngest s. of the first Jeremy, m. 20 Mar. 1689, Mary Simpson, prob. d. of Thomas of Salisbury, had Jane, b. 26 Mar. 1690; David, 19 Dec. 1691; Ruth, 22 Dec. 1693; and Thomas, 29 May 1696. Two other ch. by that w. he had, and five more by sec. w. m. 11 Oct. 1705, by name of Ruth Knight.
BELCHER SAMUEL, Braintree, eldest s. of Gregory the first, m. at Dorchester, 15 Dec. 1663, Mary, d. of Roger Billings, had Moses.
BELCHER SAMUEL, Newbury, s. of the first Jeremy, as is thot. preach. some yrs. at Isle of Shoals, was ord. 10 Nov. 1698 at N. but went to his native Ipswich, there d. 10 Mar. 1715 in 76th yr. and his wid. d. 14 Nov. 1723. Readily is it confess. that of the two Samuels much doubt has exist. wh. m. the d. of Billings, or wh. was the min. Of this name seven had been gr. at Harv. in its first ninety yrs. and only one in its last hundred and thirty.
BLOWERS PYAM, Cambridge, m. 31 Mar. 1668, Elizabeth d. of Andrew Belcher, wh. d. 29 May 1709, aged 69, and he d. three days after, aged 71. For his services in discov. on the coast of Carolina, 1663, he had grant of five hundred acres there, but prob. he never claim. them.
DANFORTH NICHOLAS, Cambridge, from Framlingham, Co. Suff. came 1631, freem. , 3 Mar. 1636, rep. 1636 and 7, d. Apr. 1638, leav. Thomas, wh. was b. 1622; Samuel, Sept. 1626, H. C. 1643; Jonathan, 29 Feb. 1628; Ann, prob. 1620, w. of Matthew Bridge; Lydia, w. of William Beaman; and the eldest, Elizabeth 1618, w. of Andrew Belcher,( gr.mo. of Gov. Jonathan. )His (Nicholas Danforths) w. Elizabeth had d. 1629 in Eng.
DOLE, ABNER, Newbury, youngest s. of Richard, m. 1 Nov. 1694, Mary Jewett of Rowley, had Henry, b. 28 Oct. 1695. His w. d. 4 wks. after, and he m. 5 Jan. 1699, Sarah Belcher of Boston, had Nathaniel, 29 Mar. 1701; Sarah, 14 Jan. 1703; and Abner, 19 May 1706.
FRARY THEOPHILUS, Boston, br. of the preced. cordwainer, m. 4 June 1653, Hannah, d. of Jacob Eliot, had Theophilus, 20 Sept. 1657, d. soon; John, 19 Sept. 1658; Theophilus, again, 4 Dec. 1660, d. young; Theophilus, again, 30 Jan. 1662; Abigail, 5 Sept. 1663; Mehitable, 23 Jan. 1665, d. soon; Mehitable, again, 4 Feb. 1666; John, again, 11 Dec. 1668; Prudence, 23 Aug,. 1670; Samuel, 13 May 1673; and Bethia, 5 Dec. 1674.
He had also Hannah, as by his will of 11 Sept. 1697, pro. 31 Oct. 1700, appears, in wh. he gives to now w. Mary, ds. Hannah Belcher, Abigail Arnold, and Mehitable Lillie, brs. Samson and Eleazur, and makes ds. excors. so that we may presume the s. were all d. He was deac. of the third, or O. S. ch. rep. 1689, and d. 17 Oct. 1700.
GILBERT JONATHAN, Hartford, br. of John of the same, b. in Eng. m. 29 Jan. 1646, Mary, d. of John White, or Whight, not Wright, as Hinman, 260, prints, had Jonathan, b. 11 May, but one rec. says 15 Dec. 1648; and Mary, la Dec. 1649, d. young. His w. d. a. the same time, and he m. 1650, Mary, sis. of Thomas Welles of Hadley (wh. d. 3 July 1700, aged 74), had Sarah, b. 25 July 1651; Mary; Lydia, 3 Oct. 1654; Thomas, a. 1655; Nathaniel; Samuel; Ebenezer; Esther; and Rachel; was a man of distinct. kept an inn, and was many yrs. marshal of the Col.; d. 10 Dec. 1682, aged 64.
His will of 10 Sept. 1674, ment. ten ch. liv. and gr.ch. John Rossiter, Andrew Belcher, and Jonathan Richardson. His wid. contin. to keep the inn where her h. had so long, serv. the public, and in her will, of 20 May 1700, nam. all her eight ch. exc. Nathaniel, wh. had d. unm.
Sarah, the eldest d. m. 1 July 1670, Andrew Belcher, (was mo. of Gov. Jonathan) B. and d. at Charlestown, 26 Jan. 1689;
GILL JOHN, Dorchester 1640, freem. 1666, liv. in that pt. wh. bec. Milton, bot. Stoughton's mill 1673, rem. to Boston, and d. 1678. His w. was Ann, sis. I presume, of Roger Billings; and his d. Rebecca m. Joseph Belcher
GROSSE EDMUND, Boston, m. 19 Feb. 1695, Dorothy, d. of Josiah Belcher. He was s. of Clement, and had, I think, no ch.
MARSH, ALEXANDER, Braintree, was freem. 1654, m. 19 Dec. 1655, I judge, Mary, d. of Gregory Belcher, was rep. under new chart. 1692; d. 7 Mar. 1698, aged a. 70 says gr.stone. His win of 19 Mar. 1697, pro. 31 Mar. 1698, ment. w. Bathsheba, s. John, ds. Rachel, Phebe, Ann, w. of Samuel French, beside gr.d. Mary French, s.-in-law Dependence French, and Samuel Bass. His s. John was then a minor, and f. I believe, of John, H. C. 1726. His wid. d. 8 Jan. 1723, aged a. 82, says the gr.stone at Dorchester.
MILLER SAMUEL, Springfield, freem. 1690. SAMUEL, Rehoboth, m. 20 July 1682 Esther Bowen, had Esther, b. 4 Apr. foll. and, perhaps, he had sec. w. Rebecca, d. of Joseph Belcher
NILES SAMUEL, Braintree, third s. of John, m. 20 Apr. 1680, Vinton says, wid. Mary Belcher, and I [[285]] wish his industr. research had ascertain. of wh. he was wid. so that we might not be left to conject. that she was d. of Roger Billings, wh. m. Samuel Belcher. By her he had Sarah, b. Jan. 1681; Hannah 1682; and Samuel, 15 June 1686; was a lieut. 1697. Eleven of this name had, in 1634, been gr. at N. E. coll. of wh. four were of Dart. three of Harv. and two of Yale.
OLIVER, Boston, s. of John of B. m. Ann, d. of Hon. Andrew Belcher, had Ann, b. 17 Apr. 1704; Oliver, 4 July 1705, d. in few days; Oliver, again, 1 Sept. 1707, d. at 7 mos.; Belcher, 10 Oct. 1709, H. C. 1727; Sarah, 21 Oct. 1710; John, 12 Aug. 1713, d. young; and John, again, 8 Aug. 1718, d. in few weeks; was rep. 1714, oft. aft. took sec. w. 6 Feb. 1719, Catharine, wid. of sec. David Jeffries; and d. 16 Mar. 1721. Hutchinson, wh. well kn. him, gives character, II. 249.
OLIVER, DANIEL, Boston, youngest s. of Peter the first, m. 23 Apr. 1696, Elizabeth d. of Hon. Andrew Belcher, sis. of Gov. Jonathan, had Daniel, b. 14 Jan. 1704, H. C. 1722, wh. d. of smallpox, at London, 5 July 1727; Andrew, 28 Mar. 1706, H. C. 1724, who was lieut.-gov. of the Prov. and d. 3 Mar. 1774; and Peter, 17 Mar. 1713, H. C. 1730, the Ch. Justice of the Sup. Ct. of Mass. who was impeach. and d. at Birmingham, Oct. 1791; was freem. 1690, and d. 23 July 1732. His wid. d. 1735
PAINE JOHN, Rehoboth, s. of Stephen of the same, m. Elizabeth d. of Josiah Belcher of Boston, had Elizabeth b. 12 July 1682.
PAINE WILLIAM, Ipswich, came in the Increase from London, 1635, aged 37, with Ann, prob. his w. 40; beside Susan, 11; William, 10; Ann, 5; John, 3; and Daniel, 8 wks.; freem. 13 May 1640, may have been first at Watertown some few yrs. had large est. and used it in a publ. spirit, rem. to Boston, and d. 10 Oct. 1660, leav. only s. John, bef. ment. His will, made 8 days bef. pro. 14 Nov. foll. in our Vol. of rec. I. 345, provides L200 to his w. Hannah, and the dwel.-ho. for life; L1,500 to the 3 ch. of his d. Hannah, w. of Samuel Appleton, viz.: Hannah, 600; Samuel, 500; and [[338]] Judith, 400. a lib. allow. for s. John, to six ch. of Simon Eyre, dec. viz.: Benjamin, Mary, Rebecca, Christian, Ann, and Dorothy, £5 ea. and to Simon, wh. was older than most of them, £5. (from this I conject. as also from being fellow-passeng. that the w. of Eyre was sis. of this testator); to my sis. Page £3 per an. and to her ch. John, Samuel, Elizabeth Mary, and Phebe, £5 ea.; to ch. of my sis. Hammond, John, Elizabeth and Hannah, £5. ea.; to my kinswo. Elizabeth d. of Samuel Howse, £10, to two ds. of my cous. RANSFORD, EDWARD, Boston 1630, came in the fleet with Winthrop by Hutchinson I. 260, called br. of Ch. Just. Rainsford, wh. so strongly do I suspect to be erron. that gladly would conject. be offered of its possib. cause, were it in my power, was freem. 17 Apr. 1637, a deac. and rul. elder of the first ch. and one the founders of the third, indignant at the artifices practis. to bring Davenport from New Haven, d. 16 Aug. 1680. He by first w. had Mary and Josiah, b. 1, both bapt. 17 June 1632; the mo. d. the same mo. and Josiah d. in Sept. foll. and by sec. w. Elizabeth had John, b. 30 June, bapt. 27 July 1634; Jonathan, bapt. 23 Oct. 1636; Ranis, 4, bapt. 10 June 1638; Nathan, 24 July, bapt. 1 Aug. 1641, d. bef. his f.; David, bapt. 1 Sept. 1644, d. 28 Nov. 1691; Solomon; Edward; Elizabeth; and Ann, b. 1 Feb. 1652; all exc. the first s. named in the will, made 3, pro. 28 Aug. 1680, tho. Jonathan and Nathan are ment. as d. yet the latter prob. without issue, as his sure. to Edward and the ch. of the other are named, Jonathan, Dorothy, and Mary. His wid. Elizabeth wh. d. 16 Nov. 1688, aged 81, is nam. excor. and he calls his. ds. Mary Parcyfull, meaning possib. Percival, but wh. the h. was is unkn. Ranis Belcher, w. of Josiah, Elizabeth Greenough, sec. w. of William and Ann Hough, w. of Samuel of Boston.
RIMINGTON, REMINGTON, JONATHAN, Cambridge, b. in Rowley 1639, perhaps s. of John the first, m. 13 July, 1664; Martha, d. of Andrew Belcher, had Martha, b. 18 Feb. 1667; Jonathan, 18 Mar. 1669; both d. in Apr. 1669; Martha again, 28 Oct. 1674; Jonathan, 27 July 1677, H. C. 1696; Samuel, 11 July 1679, d. next yr.; Ann, 30 Jan. 1681; John, wh. d. 6 Apr. 1689; and Sarah, 10 May 1688. He was selectman, town clk. and treasur. d. 21 Apr. 1700, and his wid. Martha d. 16 July 1711. His s. Jonathan, one of the judges of the Sup. Ct. d. 1745, had Jonathan, H. C. 1736, wh. d. after two yrs.
RUGGLES JOHN, Boston, a butcher, s. of George, freem.1663, rem. in his latter days to Braintree, in his will of 10 Nov. 1707, pro. 11 Nov. 1709, gave s. John his est. in Boston, and [[587]] the rest of his prop. to s. Joseph, d. Elizabeth Belcher, s. in law, Jonathan Hayward, and gr.ch. Sarah H. s. in law Jonathan Jones, and gr.ch. Sarah and Ruth J. w. Rebecca, and gr.ch. John Ruggles.
SILL ,SYLL JOSEPH, Cambridge, s. of the preced. b. in Eng. came with his f. in inf. m. 5 Dec. 1660, Jemima, d. of Andrew Belcher the first of the same, wh. d. a. 1675, had sev. ch. of wh. I kn. only Andrew, b. 5 Feb. 1665, that d. soon; Joseph, bapt. 11 Mar. 1666; and Jemima b. 21 Sept. as the town rec. proves to Mr. Paige's is fact. tho. the ch. reg. says, bapt. 31 Mar. 1667; and Elizabeth b. 12 Sept. 1668; and the rec. of b. has no others. But others there were, as the fam. tradit. makes two s. lost at sea; and fully confirm. is it by the fact, that aft. the d. of w. in the begin. of Philip's war, and aft. m. of sec. w. he made deed of trust, 7 Nov. 1681, to Andrew Belcher, their uncle, in favor of his s. Andrew, and Thomas.
STONE . ROWLAND, Boston shipwright, bot. est. 1673, by w. Bethia had Bethia, b. 15 July 1677; Abigail, 3 Apr. 1679; and by sec. w. Ann d. of the first Joseph Belcher, had Rowland, 3 Sept. 1683; Joseph, 31 Mar. 1685; Ann, 28 Oct. 1686: John, 20 Mar. 1689; Ann, 14 Mar. 1691; Abigail, again, 11 Mar. 1693; Samuel, 20 Aug. 1694; Rebecca, 2 May 1696, d. soon; William, 30 Mar. 1698; Rebecca, again, 1 Feb. 1700, d. soon; Rebecca, again, 28 Aug. 1701; Jeremiah, 2 July 1702; Zachariah, 27 June 1706; and Benjamin, 15 Nov. 1707; yet in the rec. of one of these, I think it is John), the name of this is giv. Richard, wh. whoso will may believe. He d. prob. July 1709, for his inv. dat. 9 of that mo. was by the admor. wid. Ann, produc. 14 Sept. foll.
VAUGHN GEORGE, Portsmouth, s. of William of the same, m. Mary, d. of Andrew Belcher, wh. d. 3 Feb. 1700, 3 days aft. b. of a d. wh. soon d. and next 9 Jan. he m. Elizabeth d. of Robert Eliot of Newcastle,
WALTERS THOMAS, Roxbury, s. of Rev. Nehemiah, ord. 29 Oct. 1718, collea. with his f. m. 25 Dec. foll. Rebecca, d. of Rev. Joseph Belcher of Dedham, had Rebecca, b. 1722; and he d. of consumpt. 10 Jan. 1725 hav. much disting. hims. in his short serv.
MICHAEL WIGGLESWORTH, His wid. d. 6 Aug. 1708, in her 54th yr. as Harris, Epit. 40, shows. He had talk. his mo. and sis. to live with him. Of his ds. Mary is suppos. to have m, a. 1673, Samuel Brackenbury, and next Rev. Samuel Belcher; Abigail m. 23 Dec. 1700 or 1702, Samuel Tappan; Martha m. a Wheeler; Esther m. 8 June 1708, John Sewall, wh. d. 1711, and next 21 Oct. 1713, Abraham Tappan; and Dorothy m. 2 June 1709,
