Faith in the Creator of the universe has deep roots in man. From the very moment Adam was formed from the dust of the ground, there has been that divine spark within the human heart. When the lord God cast Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden, humans have searched for that which is missing in our lives. In order that we may find Him, God the Father sent His Son, Jesus, as a sacrifice for the sins of Mankind. Jesus, after his resurrection, commissioned his followers to go into all nations and spread the good news.
In the early history of America, churches were usually one of the first public buildings constructed as towns formed.
Men of God would then travel about teaching and instructing the settlers about the gospel.
Faith has formed a strong foundation in America. We are one nation "UNDER GOD".
Belcher Preachers
Rev. William Belcher
Puritan preacher of London
John Belcher (d. 1695) London, England
John Belcher, son of Rev. William Belcher, a Puritan preacher of London, was pastor of the Bell Lane (London) Seventh Day church as early as 1668, when he and his church addressed a letter to the Sabbath-keepers of Newport, New England. He assisted at the ordination of Joseph Stennett, March 4, 1690, at Pinner's Hall, and delivered one of the exhortations. He died in March, 1695, and Joseph Stennett preached his funeral sermon, April 1st, from 2 Cor. 5: 4, under the title, "The groans of a saint tinder the burden of a mortal body;" the sermon is to be found in the "Life and Works of Joseph Stennett," and was also published separately in 1695.
This church was organized about the year 1662, according to Benedict's "History of the Baptists," page 339. It was in a flourishing condition in 1668, having John Belcher as pastor. In the Seventh-day Baptist Memorial, (1-24), may be found a letter from this church to the Sabbath-keepers of Newport, New England; it is dated March 26, 1668, and signed by eleven brethren -- among whom are Edward Fox, William Gibson, and John Belcher.. The letter breathes a most pious and fraternal spirit. On page 26 of the same publication is a "Letter from Dr. Edward Stennett of the Seventh-day Baptist church in Bell Lane, London, to the Sabbath-keepers in Rhode Island; dated Abingdon, Berkshire, February 2, 1668."

Reverend Belcher felt it was time for a new beginning in North Kingstown.
Unfortunately, The Reverend Richard Belcher, the man who started the dream, passed away before the sanctuary was built. He never saw his dream realized, but we believe he’s one very proud member of God’s Kingdom to know how far we’ve come.

Joseph Belcher
The Testimony of Joseph Belcher, D.D.
Going back farther in time and across the Atlantic we consider Joseph Belcher who was born in Birmingham, England in 1794 and converted in 1814. In 1819 he was ordained as pastor in Somersham and later served other churches. He became pastor of a Baptist church in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1844 and after serving there for three years relocated to Philadelphia and the Mount Tabor Church.
Initially, we shall hear from Belcher's enormous work of more than a thousand pages which was praised by the secular and religious press of its day and by representatives of the Baptist, Methodist, Episcopal, Lutheran and Presbyterian denominations for its honesty, fairness and comprehensiveness. Several of these testimonials are to be found toward the forepart of the volume, placed there as a matter of advertisement. Joseph Belcher wrote:
"In proceeding to sketch the History of the Baptist body at large, their writers rejoice that early historical documents are in existence which very materially aid them. They cannot, they say, but be thankful to Mosheim [see glossary] when he tells them that their origin is hidden in the depths of antiquity, because such a testimony, like that of Cardinal Hosius [see glossary], when he says that the Baptists have furnished martyrs for twelve hundred years, goes to show that they are not so modern in their origin as some recent writers would pretend."
Again Dr. Belcher speaks of Baptist claims to exclusive perpetuity when he wrote:
"But as the Baptists lay claim to the highest antiquity, even to be the lineal descendants of the primitive church..."
We quote Belcher in a later work of a similar nature, where he testifies in the clearest of language.
"It will be seen that the Baptists claim the high antiquity of the commencement of the Christian church. They can trace a succession of those who have believed the same doctrine, and administered the same ordinances, directly up to the apostolic age."
Surely no clarification of this testimony is required! http://users.aol.com/libcfl/witness4.htm
