Mrs. Caroline Shroades was born April 4, 1839 in Yellow Springs, Ohio and
departed this life March 20, 1918 making her almost 79 years of age. Most of her
girlhood days were spent in Yellow Springs. She joined the M.E. Church when
about 14 years of age. She was united in marriage with Mr. David J.
Shroades, January 1, 1863. They then resided in Cedarville, Ohio until Mr.
Shroades death in 1906. She has since made her home with her daughter. She
leaves four children to mourn their loss. Mrs. K.B. Rader of Dayton; Lee of
Cedarville; George of Xenia; and Mrs. Hester Harie of San Marcos, Texas. Five
children preceded her in death. Nine grandchildren are left. She leaves three
sisters, Mrs. George Carlisle and Mrs. George Cox of Yellow Springs, Mrs. Anna
Shroades of Martinsburg WV and one half sister, Mrs. Retta Shears of Cedarville.
She has always lived a faithful Christian life and always a faithful wife and
mother. Brief funeral services were held in Dayton at 10 o'clock Friday
morning, after which the body was brought to Cedarville and services were held
at the home of Mr. Lee Shroades at 2 o'clock. Burial was made in North Cemetery.
Pallbearers were two sons, Mr. Lee Shroades and Mr. George Shroades, and four
grandsons. Roy, Frank, Rean, and Walter Shroades.
