                                                       DEATH OF AN OLD CITIZEN

Mrs. John M. SHANK of Alpha, passes from earth - invalid for sixteen years.

Mrs. Lydia SHANK, wife of John M. SHANK died last night at 11 o'clock at her home in Alpha, aged 55 years. She had been confined to her bed for nine weeks, but had been an invalid for sixteen years with stomach trouble. She was Miss HAWKINS before marriage, which occurred about 39 years ago, and was a sister of Davis and Wm. HAWKINS just Northeast of this city, in which vicinity she was born and raised all of her life having been spent in this county.  Of the HAWKINS family, three survives her, two brothers named, a brother out West, and two sisters, a Mrs. WATKINS and Mrs. Geo. SHANK of Paris ILL. She leaves her bereaved husband and five children, Miss Jennie and Albert, Joseph, Will and Davis, who have the deep sympathy of the community in which they live. Mrs. SHANK was a good wife, a kind and careful mother, and greatly beloved by those with whom she was surrounded. The funeral will take place to-morrow from the house at half past one. Revs. Yockey and Steel officiating. Burial at Beaver Cemetery.
