LONG LIFE OF A VENERABLE XENIA WOMAN IS CLOSED
After a long life, Mrs. Martha E. MacDill, widow of the late Dr. David MacDill,
and well known Xenia resident, died at her late home on North King Street at
three o'clock Sunday afternoon. Death was due to infirmities of old age
Mrs. MacDill was born January 13, 1826, and thus was past 92 years of age at the time of her death. She was the daughter of George Gordon and Agnes McDaniel Gordon who came to this county from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and was born on a farm in Sugarcreek Township between Bellbrook and Springvalley.
When Mrs. MacDill was four years of age her father moved to the Mount Hope farm and later bought a tract of land in North Xenia where the old Gordon homestead was established. The MacDill home on North King is located on a part of this original tract. Mrs. MacDill was married to the late Dr. David MacDill September 21, 1853, their marriage taking place in the old Gordon homestead.
Dr. MacDill preceded her in death 15 years, his death occurring in 1903. All her brothers and sisters preceded her in death, and she leaves but one son, Dr. Edgar MacDill of Middletown. There are two grandchildren, Wilfred E. MacDill of Monmouth ILL. and Major Leslie MacDill who is commandant of an aviation gunnery field in France.
Funeral services will be held at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon
at the late residence at 601 North King Street. Burial will be private.
