THE SPRINGVALLEY BLADE
SATURDAY - MARCH 24, 1894
SPRINGVALLEY, OHIO
Geo. W. KENT was born in Montgomery Co., Ohio October 23, 1824, departed this
life March 15, 1894, at the age of 69 years, 4 months, 20 days. He was united in
marriage to Mary SNODGRASS November 23, 1852. To them were born four children -
three sons and one daughter. The deceased leaves surviving him his four
children, companion, and a multitude of friends. Mr. Kent joined the great army
for Christ in his boy hood days and proved himself a very faithful soldier.
He united with the M.P. Church of Xenia when but 16 years of age, under
the labors of J.I. DEVOILE.
From Xenia he moved to Bellbrook where he lived for 34 years. During this period
of his life, he was a zealous worker in the M.P. Church, occupying at different
times the various official positions of the church. But few years since 1846 he
missed going as delegate to the Ohio Annual Conference. In this body of
ministers and layman he proved his knowledge of church discipline and gained
confidence of the conference. Four times he was sent as delegate to the general
conference, and was a member of the convention held at Baltimore MD., after the
close of the Civil War, when the Methodist Church North, and the M.P. Church
South, were united. This event he often spoke of with a great degree of
gladness. His entire life, we may say, has been a life for Christ. He labored
not entirely for his own enjoyment, but spent much time in winning souls for
Christ, and the building up of his church. His sickness was a prolonged one, but
through it all his faith in Christ did not waver. A few days before his death he
expressed his faith in his Savior by saying " I have fought a good fight, I
have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth there is laid up for
me a crown a righteous Judge shall give me".
The funeral services were from the M.P. Church at Bellbrook. A very appropriate discourage
was delivered by Rev. T.B. GRAHAM, D.D. of Richmond, Ohio.
The body of the deceased was interred in the Bellbrook Cemetery on Saturday at
4:00 P.M.
