XENIA, OHIO
GREENE COUNTY
Catherine ROUTH TOWELL was born in Louisville, Kentucky July 25,
1813, moved to Jamestown, Ohio in 1822 and resided there until her marriage with
John TOWELL June 9 1839. To them were born eight children, two boys and six
girls. Four of whom survive her, Mary E., Sarah J., and Eliza M GORDIN., and
Martha B. HIELMAN, during her
long, long, illness, with loving hands, ministered to her every want as only
kind and affectionate children could minister to a beloved mother.
Sister TOWELL united with the Christian Church in Jamestown June 15, 1837 and
until her death nearly 62 years, lived an exemplary life, and at 8 o'clock a.m.
January 11, 1899 calmly and peacefully without a struggle, she passed to that
Silent Land. God "giveth his beloved sleep." She was aged 85 years 5
months and 16 days.
