Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Driggers Green (30 Jun 1825 - 4 Jan 1905) Mrs. Elizabeth Green, grandmother of Mrs. W.P. Ward of this city, died at her home at Sanderson Fla., Jan 4th, 1905. Mrs. Green, whose maiden name was Driggers, moved to Florida from Bulloch County Ga. more than 60 years ago. She was the widow of Mr. Elisha Green, who before the war was one of the largest planters and slave owners in Baker County Florida. Their farm was situated 3 miles south of Sanderson on the south prong of the St. Mary's River. She was the mother of twelve children, eight of whom are still living. She has ninety-six grandchildren and sixty great-grandchildren. Mrs. Geo. P. Canova is her oldest child; Mrs. W.P. Ward is her oldest grandchild and Mr. Geo. D. Ward is her oldest great- grandchild. Mrs. Green was about 80 years of age at the time of her death. She was a woman of strong personality and was one of the pioneers of that section of Florida. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist church and kept her faith till the end. Her home was noted for its hospitality in that section of the state. She had plenty and to spare and was kind to the poor and needy. In her better days and before she became too old and infirm she was sent for by people far and near to attend and wait upon their sick. Like a ministering angel of love and mercy, she went from place to place through weather cold and hot, in sunshine and rain to lend a helping hand to the distressed and suffering about her. She lived to see her children grown and married, and having finished her course in life, having lived out her three score years and ten, being ripe in years and ready for her final departure, she was willing and ready to go. During her last illness and a few days before she died, she called her children and had them kneel about her dying bed and pray that God's will be done and not hers. All of her children, grand children and friends who were in reach of her during her last illness did all that loving hands could to relieve her suffering and administer to her every want during her last hours. She was laid to rest in the family graveyard in sight of the home where she had lived for more than 50 years. Servant of God - well done, Thy glorious warfare past The battle fought, the victory won And thou has found rest at last. __________________________
