Now refers generally to native-born Anglo-heritage residents of GA & FL. talking ugly - cursing; unpleasant or intimidating speech ("Momma, Billy's talking ugly to me!") stove up - stiff; sore or achey ("My back shore is stove up this mornin".) right smart - a lot of something; overabundance ("The neighbor brought us a right smart mess of greens.") lighterd - contraction of "light wood"; pine wood, usually from old-growth stumps, which burns very vigorously and was widely used as kindling. chunk - to throw or heave ("Chunk another lighterd knot on the fire.") bass-ackards - polite variant of "ass backwards"; reversed; in the wrong direction ("Jim's put his drawers on bass-ackards and can't find the fly.") shuteye - restful sleep ("I need to get some shuteye before I go to work.") y'all - contraction of "you all"; plural tense only. ("Y'all kids come in the house now.") et - variant of eaten ("Have y'all et supper yet?") fixing - preparing; getting ready for an event; (fixings) the thing being fixed ("I'm fixing to go hunting soon as I finish this biscuit.") ("I've got my fixings ready to make bread.") carry - to drop off or deliver a person or thing ("On your way to town, could you carry Tom to school?") play purty - a toy ("Little Jimmy wants a new play purty for Christmas.")
