Descendants of Henry Pickle
Generation No. 1
1. Henry1 Pickle was born 1780 in North Carolina
(Source: Marsh, Helen C. & Marsh, Timothy R., Cemetery Records of Bedford
County, Tennessee, Southern Historical Press, Inc., 169.), and died 27 Sep 1854
in Bedford County, Tennessee (Source: Marsh, Helen C. & Marsh, Timothy R.,
Cemetery Records of Bedford County, Tennessee, Southern Historical Press, Inc.,
169.). He married Rachel Neeley
07 Feb 1804 in Orange County, NC, daughter of John Neeley and Mary Carrington. She was born 1779 in Little River Twp.,
Orange County, NC (Source: Marsh, Helen C. & Marsh, Timothy R., Cemetery
Records of Bedford County, Tennessee, Southern Historical Press, Inc., 169.),
and died May 1859 in Bedford County, Tennessee (Source: Marsh, Helen C. &
Marsh, Timothy R., Cemetery Records of Bedford County, Tennessee, Southern
Historical Press, Inc., 169.).
Notes for Henry
Pickle:
There is a Henry
Pickle in the 1790 Orange County Tax List (St. Mary's District). Also see Will
Book "D", p. 455 (Dr. Cates). Also 1810 Census of Orange County is a
Henry Pickle. I wonder if they are related.
The 1850 census shows:
Henry Pickle 70 NC
Rachel 71 NC
Nancy 20 TN (probably
daughter of Henry's son, John)
Newton 16 TN (probably
son of Henry's son, John)

Memory of Henry Pickle, who departed this life Sept. 27, 1854 aged: 74 yrs.

When did Henry Pickle
move from NC to TN? Evidently 1812. Hannah [(Neeley) Jamison] came in about
1820.

I am searching for
information on a Jacob Pickle that was in Orange County, North Carolina in the
early 1800's. He is listed in the
Orange County marriage records as bondsman for the marriage of Ezekiel Laws and
Peggy Riggs, 2 March 1801. Also a
Thomas Laws is listed as bondsman for the marriage of Henry Pickle and Rachel
Neeley. I am a descendant of a Jacob Pickle and Catherine that migrated to
Alabama and then on to Monroe County, Mississippi about 1830. Could my Jacob Pickle be the same and is he
related to the Henry Pickle line? Any
information on the Jacob Pickle in Orange County about 1800 would be
appreciated. I can not find him listed
in the marriage or census records at that time.

developed a serious phase.
Mr. Pickle was 81
years old, and possessed wonderful vitality for a man of his years. In 1840 he
was married to Miss Lucinda B. Stephenson. In 1875, some time after the death
of his first wife, he was married to Miss Virginia O. Swiney, who survives him.
By both unions he had 20 children, seventeen of whom are living and were in
attendance at his funeral.
Mr. Pickle was a man
of considerable wealth, and used it in a very beneficial manner. No man ever
rightfully accused Thos. Pickle of [unreadable]. He loaned his money on
reasonable security at reasonable interest, and many a man has been helped by
his kindness. His dealings were always liberal, and those having business with
him, having an opportunity to know him intimately, were his best friends.
Funeral services were
concucted [sic] at the home Saturday by Rev. [M.?] M. Crawford and his remains
laid to rest in Round Hill Cemetery.

Caroline Swiney:
I think this person is
possibly Virginia Swinney. There was a "J. Swinney" who married a
Thomas Pickle in 1875, which is just about perfect for this couple. Note also
that "Jennie" is a nickname for Virginia.
