The table below gives the number of live childbirths for years 1997-2000, 2002, in the USA, broken down by single year for the age of the mother. I couldn't find the data for single year for 2000 and 2002, so I have the statistics broken down as much as possible. The point of this table is to demonstrate the statistical rarity of live childbirth for mothers aged 50 and more. For the years shown, less than 0.005% of live childbirths are to mothers aged 50 and more. Thus, for an arbitrarily selected database of 25,000 people, one can expect, on average, about one (1) person to have been born to a mother aged 50 or more. Note also that these statistics include all manner of fertility treatment that would not have been available to our ancestors. Thus, even these miniscule probabilities are still an overestimate compared to what our ancestors would have experienced.
