Now I'm trying to figure out the right father for Fied, I believe his dad was William Allen not Valentine who I thought was his brother. Can you help me. Barbara Sublett Davis. Dear Gregg,
You have a wonderful website and you've done a great job on it! I entered your site with the hope of finding Jacob Stumpf (even though your site lists "Stump")who was born in Germany in 1862 and died in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho in 1920. He's not one of "your" people, so I'll be on my way.
Here's wishing you happy hunting in your continuing search. (Today is December 25, 2005 so I'll also wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas!)
Best wishes, Barbara Huggins

Trying to find evidence that William Bolen/Bowlin b ca 1786, found in 1820-30 Harrison Co., OH census is son of John Bolen in 1800 census of Wash. Co., PA. Also wondering if Cims Bolen who has Rev. War cards from same Co. in PA is the same as SIMON BOWLING, and if he's father to John.
William Bolen, b 1786 had at least 2 sons who named one of their sons ELIAS.

She was married to my 5th greatgrandfather Capt William Sherrill. I have found info saying her father was Mr. White b: 1700 and her mother Mrs. Agnes White b: 1704. That doesn't give much help. Our oral family tradition says that she descended from the Powhatan Tribe. Do you have any info about her ancestry. Thanks much.

Your posting on ancestry world tree is very detailed and helpful, but I spotted a correction. You listed Fremont Swallow, born about 1856, son of Simpson B. Swallow and Mary Jane Cathcart. I suspect you refer to Fremont Calvin Swallow, born 8 October 1856 in Butler Twp, Montgomery Co OH, died 2 May 1923 in Cosmos, Jackson Twp, Darke Co, OH. However, Fremont Calvin Swallow was the son of Simpson B. Swallow's nephew Simpson Swallow. This second Simpson Swallow (born 14 Nov 1829 in Butler Twp) was the son of Simpson B. Swallow's brother James O. Swallow.

Your tree gave me several helpful pieces of information--just trying to help in return. Thanks!

Looking for more info on the following:
1. J. A. C. STOMP b. abt 1839, MD. m. Elizabeth STEED abt 1859. According to 1860 OH Census, he was married and living in Pataskala, Licking, OH.

Had one son:
Robert William STOMP b. 28 Nov 1861 Pataskala, Licking,OH
d. 27 Jan 1937 Okla.City, OK. m. Mary Isabelle "Belle" WILCOX 28 Sep 1889, Union Center (?), Licking, OH.

According to Robert W., J.A.C. STOMP had a 'falling out' with his father and older brothers, so he left home as a teenager, changed his name (first, last, or both, he didn't know). The surname had originally been STUMP, STUMPF, or STUMPH. Evidently the family lived in MD in 1839, but J.A.C. (either with his family, another family member, or alone) had moved to Licking Co, OH prior to 1860. Did any of the MD STUMPs 'lose' a wayward son during the late 1850s? Perhaps he was part of one of the families en route to Indiana?

2. PARENTS of: Norman Washington Jerome STOMP, b. 21 Sep 1829 Fredrickton or Hagerstown, MD. d. 21 May 1904 Columbus, OH. m. Anna Louise WEILER in Covington, KY in 1873.

You have a wonderfully designed website! I stumbled on your information on rootsweb looking for a corley. However, in accessing your webpage, I noticed the Bonner. We have a Bonner that we have been looking for that either married or had a relationship with Christina Carr B: 22 Jul 1790 Hardy County, Virginia D: 26 Nov 1858 Belington, Barbour Co., WV. THey had a child Rebecca Elizabeth (carr) or (bonner). Christina went on to have another relationship with Isaac Booth who fathered 4 other children with her. They never married. I also have another no first name bonner that had some connection with my gggrandmother emily booth. She was a resident of weston mental institution. Her father John J. Booth had written a letter of inquiry about her, the response said she showed no improvement. and the last paragraph states that Mr. Bonner was still there and about as usual physically. Whether there is a connection here that you can help me with, don't know, but if you can shed any insight on who these particular Bonner are surely would be appreciated. Apparently they are woven into our tree some way. Thanks, Sandra Corn

Hi Greg,
I know we have co-responded before..maybe 2-3 years ago? I've since had a bad computer crash and am re-building severals 'trees'. Today I found this site from a link at ancestry family trees while looking for BRIGANCE. I was surprised to see that there were trees that finally had BRIGANCE back beyond those original 4 brothers from NC in the 1700's. I did not know anyone had found where they wer from. They go back to France. Do you know if that has been substantiated? I descend from William (b.1750)>John (b.1782 m. Rebecca Stuart) > James M.(b.1833, m. Kassandra Hensley)>Thomas Neal (b.1877,m. Elsie Clifton)>William Neal(b.1901,m. Marguerite McKeever)>Beverly Jean(b. 1926)> Me.
Very interested in the "French Connection" :) Can you respond to that issue?
Thanks, Kay

Hi...according to our records I am a descendant of Abraham b. abt 1635 in Charels City, VA, d 22 Aug 1688 who married Ursula about 1670, his son Wm. Heath b. abt 1669, died abt 1725 in Somerset Co....married a Mary Ann Wilson (some say a Mary and then an Ann, but the dates don't then make sense on the will and purchase of property), his son Jonathan Heath who married Rachel, his son Asahel who married Eunice, his son Asahel who married Alsey Currence, his son Randolph who married Melissa Allison, his son George W. Heath who married Rhoda Temperence Smith, his son Randolph who married Mary Edna Hart, and his daughter Frances who was my mother. Whew.

My question is regarding the first William. You have in your line a William the son of Adam whose father was William. I think our line is the same, but we come from the brother Abraham. I believe there was Abraham, Adam, and William all sons of a William. The question I have is the line going backward.

My cousin has us coming from a Robert Heath, but I don't know. She shows that the father of Abraham as a William b. 1611 and married to Amy Gale. But he has a question mark by his name...as to those listed as his parents and grandparents. I guess we are stuck.

Do you have anything that could help me out?

Sincerely,

Catherine Fry

Great site, Gregg! I'm trying to trace my west ancestry back past my ggg-grandfather, Isham West, whose father may have been Jeptha West and who mother may have been a Gentry but now proven yet.

I'm member of West DNA project although my results are still not posted (as of 23 Nov 2005) but should be soon. However, knowing the results, they don't appear to connect immediately to any of the Wests there.

Was interested in your Gentry Bible information, although it seems all to be from later generations than what I would need to get back into the 18th century.

very interesting dear cousin!Your Lydia Wheeler who married William Dean Swallow is a sister to my ggg grandfather, Jonathan Wheeler. The Wheelers lived in Guilford Co, NC before Jonathan and several of his family members showed up in Northern Indiana. I'd love to share more of the Wheeler line with you as I'd love to see what you have on all of us.

Some of my family information can be found on my webpage, and I have tried to post several pictures online as well because I'd not be where I'm at today had my grandmother been interested in the family history and she's the one who gave me a start, I inherited most of the Wheeler, Cory, McDaniel pictures thanks to my interest. However, I'd love to have more!

I listed my website in case you'd like to check what I have learned so far. Thanks! Cheryl

Gregg,

I am looking for Newtons from Augusta Co., VA, USA. I have tested 37 markers and am looking for male Newtons whose descendants were from this area so I can compare DNA against them. My ggGrandfather was from Augusta, but we do not know his biological father. I have been working on trying to find his father for quite some time and have learned quite a bit while researching other trees. It is now time for me to explore a possible Newton connection.

Specifically, if I could find male descendants of James W. Newton [1838-1896], that would be the holy grail for me. He lived in Augusta, Co - probably the town of Greenville. I have just now started this search for James and his descendants. James was a Captain in the Civil War and served with Stonewall Jackson in the "Stonewall Brigade." It may turn out that I descend from James' father or one of his uncles.

I would like to know if there are any male Newtons in your project from this part of Virginia, USA.

Thanks.

It's been a few years (about 5) since we have corresponded. I was living in TX at the time. I am the one that had most of the Gentry information and gave it to Linda Mans. I have the bible of which the bible pages came from. If I had known you were doing tombstone pictures, we drove thru the cemetary in OK where Lillian and John Spore are suppose to be buried a few years back. We came that way on one of our trips drom IN to TX.
I also have tombstone pictures of Elizabeth (Keith) and Thomas Barrett buried on the Davidson Farm in Ohio Co., KY. Also planning to contact someone who has ferry records from the business.
HAVE you researched any of Melinda Gentry's line? If you have anything on that line I would love to see it. I keep thinking I am going to get started on it, but never seem too.
Would like to see what you have accumulated in the past 5 years,
Hope to hear from you soon, Terri

way back in 2001, and you responded, but for some obscure reason, (probably my computer crashed!!!) I lost track of everything. I'll see what I can come up with as far as corres-
pondence, pictures, etc. and if I can find anything, I'll let you know. I'm not a genealogist by a long shot, but find it very fascinating that you've done such a great job of it.

I have been looking for the parents of my "brickwall" Guerdon Chapel b. 1793 in Chenango County, New York. Several people are also looking for his ancestors. Since Chapel tends to be spelled several ways before our family adopted the shorter spelling, I look everywhere. Guerdon spent some time in Burford, Ontario, Canada where he married. Later he moved to Michigan where he settled in Kent County outside of Grand Rapids. He is supposed to have siblings named William Andrew, Martha, and Elmira Perlina and half-brother Samuel. Please let me know if you ever find a clue to his beginnings.

You have a living Bates under my grandparents (Thomas & Ethel Flora Bates). May I get that info from you as we haven't come across that. That would make that person my father's sibling.

Thank you.

Sarah, 42; Anthony, 25; Richard J., 20; Joseph T., 13; William J, 6; Christopher, 6; Lillie Ann, 3. The family goes to Arkansas later. My interest is in Lillie who married GGrandfather Larkin Gray in Johnson County, Ill, 3rd wife and they had Thomas Benton Gray, half-brother to my grandmother Ida May Gray Kiser. Was also interested in your West line where it ties into the Kisers of McNairy Co., Tenn., but can not connect my Henry Eugene Kiser to that line. Enjoyed the site. Thanks.

William Lafayette Flanigan, Albert Flanigan, Joseph Harrison Flanigan, Ellen Reed. All from Town Creek Alabama. William, my grandfather also known as Willie, born in the 1880's. Joseph his father, Ellen his mother, Albert his brother and maybe a sister named Mary. Willie left home early, traveled across the US, had several children in different places Tennessee, Texas, Mississippi.
I have not been able to pin down any information on this family. In the 1970's I wrote a letter to the editor in a newspaper (maybe Huntsville, Alabama) and received three responses. One from Mrs Oscar B Terry, one from Mrs Gus Cross and one from Robert Ben Flanigan. I still have these letters but was not able to verify that my grandfather was the same person they spoke of. I'm trying to find the rest of the other families, that I never knew we had, because my twin sister and I were put up for adoption and then I just found our birthfamilies in May of 2001, so I'm just now discovering the rest of our birthfamilies here..... our birthmother was Sylvia Travis Henry, and her parents are Mary Lucinda Street and Walter Willie Henry and her grandparents are Elliott Autry Street and Lousia Elizabeth Cox.....Can you help me ? Thanks, Debbie Rowe, who lives in Kilgore, Texas....You can email me at Ladybug22572002@yahoo.com or at Debbie12257@aol.com....

Joseph (Heck) Hecker in Frederick Co, VA born before 1800

I found records in the Frederick Co, VA, courthouse:
1801 Joseph Hecker
1802 Joseph Heck
Spouse: Catharina or Catherine
Heach - possible variation
An 1836 entry in Wills for Joseph Heck

I'm unable to find where Joseph (Heck) Hecker was born or who his parents were.

It appears that Joseph and Catherine had a son by the name of Joseph who married Catherine Barrow in 1857, Frederick Co, VA.
