[From Burton729@@aol.com]

I was looking through the Holladay information and found this.  Feuqua

Beasley Holladay married Sarah A. Bonner, born GA 1813. No children. In

chambers Co, Census 1840-50,60,70.  In 1870 the family consisted of F. B. age

59 and mary Jane 35? Oct 1, 1839 F. B. Acquired 160 acres original land tract

in T. 23 R. 28, s. 8.  F.B. was a teacher and a Justice of Peace.

I see him listed as performing several weddings in the family.

---

After F.B.'s death in about 1885, (this is an educated guess), Mary Jane and all

her children along with the Smedley boys and some Tomlinsons and others

migrated by train to Bell Co., TX and in 1905 Rebecca and her husband Mack

Jackson went to Taylor Co. TX.

It is a transcription of the 1884

LaFayette Sun newspaper by Glenda Brack.  In it F.B. is mentioned in an

arraignment, and later as a "Singing School" teacher and leader at the

Hillabee Musical Convention, from the Stateline Convention.

SACRED

To the Memory of Sister Lou T. McEachern

The subject of this communication was born August 3, 1856. She was married to W. C. McEachern Feb. 17, 1876, and joined the Baptist church at Mt. Zion, Chambers County, Aug. 8th, 1894, and died Oct. 18, 1899. As mother and wife a universal verdict from all who knew her would be, "happy the home that claimed her while living, and dark and dreary, yet not sad the home that lost her." oh, blessed hope of the gospel that anchor gone, but not lost. Truth can never die. Its expression never dies. Able, though dead, yet speaketh, she is living in the models that adorn her home, transcripts of her original self, but hope, the soul's elixir and anchor, presents her to the home again, the same mother, wife, and sister. Sister McEachern leaves nine children, five girls and four boys. The eldest 21, and the youngest 4 years of age. She was a kind and obedient wife and an affectionate mother, a zealous Christian. All who knew her knew her only to love her. She will not only be missed by husband and children, but by a host of friends. God bless the dear home. Spirit of God, then comforter of Christ's disciples abide with that family. When thou passeth through the waters, I will be with thee, and through the rivers they shall not over flow thee. When thou walkest through the fire thou shalt not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon thee, for I am the Lord thy God, the holy one of Israel, thy Savior, so answereth the Spirit.

Her loving pastor,

J. A. Dunn

Notes for CHARLES WOODARD KELLEY:

BIOGRAPHY

He was called "Papa" by his children. Daughter Vennie Ree Kelley

Carter remembers him as a very gentle man. He never raised his voice

and was very kind to his children. She remembers he had a

"blue back" speller and could spell every word in it. He could also

sing very well.

Vennie Ree remembers he would sing "fa-so-la" - i.e. he would sing the

notes rather than the words of the songs. She says it is an

old-fashioned way to sing. Mama Myrt always called him "Wood". The

family moved from Georogia in the fall of 1921 at Mama Myrt;s wishes.

They were renting land in Georgia, but seh sent Wood our to look for a

new place. He found one in Clay Co., AL. and they rented land there

from Farmer Thrasher (Thrash). Vennie Ree was eight years old at the

time.

Papa left the family and Clay Co., in March 1925, two months after

E. C. was born. There is no record or rememberance of why he left.

Vennie Ree did hear later that he first went to his brother Watson's

in Georgia. Mama Myrt wrote to Watson and received a reply from her

brother-in-law that Wood had left Georgia and was coming home. He

never did. Mr. Thrasher said Papa spoke to him the morning he left. He

told Mr. Trasher to take care of his family until he returned. He died

18 months later in Haleyville, Winston Co., AL. (These memories were

given by Vennie Ree Kelley Carter, 13 January 1994 in her eightieth

year.)

Donald Wayne Bonner says (paraphrased):

The Bonner family migrated from Alabama to Oklahoma at some point in 1907. Following the death of a couple of family members, they returned to Alabama by train in about November 1907. They stayed in Alabama until 1918, at which point they returned to Oklahoma. By then, Willis Chappell Bonner had remarried and had a child with his second wife.
