"Genetic Distance - 1"
======= ======= =======
Hello Gregg,
My analysis from www.FamilyTreeDNA.com has concluded that you and I may be genetically related, but I can't figure out how. The only family name I found on your Web page that exists in my family tree is Moore. But that is my Mother's maiden name and I believe that our "Genetic Distance - 1" comes from the Y-DNA ... If you wish to look at some of my research just google my email address and you'll find plenty.
Take care!

Greg, remember me, I am a friend of Hal and Loraine Groat. This is the first time I have visited your site and am very interested in your Gant line. I have info on Giles Gant who died in SC about 1792. He was related to the Cummins of Bedford and Lincoln CO. as well as William Amstrong and wife Margaret Wood Armstrong. I have not been able to connect these Armstrongs with mine. My grandmother was Willie Etta Armstrong Wright, born in Lincoln CO., TN. Her great grandparents, Thomas Armstrong and Mary "Molly" Brown Armstrong were in LCT by 1810 from SC. I have been trying so hard to find out if my Armstrongs came directly to LCT or stopped someplace along the line like NC or eastern TN & got to LCT when? I also see your world connect has some Renfrow's. I am a Renfrow also. My grandmother Rebecca Renfrow Wright was born in Cumberland CO., NC (1818) and was in LCT ca 1833. I will get back with you after Christmas. I have some work to do on the William and Margaret Wood Armstrong for some of my info cannot be right. However the person that I got it from has now passed away. I need to call the Groats for it has been some time that we havew talked. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Hope you have not had too much snow. Julia

Gregg: My cousin, Jack Smith, gave me a copy of a record of a trip my grandfather & grandmother made from TN to CA in 1921. My grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Pickle, daughter of Thomas Pickle and Virginia Caroline Swiney. They left from Sherly (Shirley) Word's. I did a search and found your genealogy data base v. 22 that showed he was married to Susan Adele Pickle, my grandmother's sister. Susan Adele's name was also on another page, Thomas Pickle Bible records, but I missed it, as I was looking at Marriages, which does not include theirs. Is that your picture at the bottom of data base v. 22? Your work on the Pickle and related families has been a great help to me. Thanks! -- Don Lane (Houston, TX)

my wife's grandfather was listed in a 1900 census of Meriwether Co. Georgia as John F. Upshaw and I have been unable to find another John F. Upshaw except in this line of Upshaws. His age in the 1900 census is exactly the age of this John F. Upshaw and the Middleton Upshaw lived in the same town as her grandfather grew up in i.e. Luthersville , Georgia The problem I have is someone else says they married this John F. Upshaw and I/m looking to see if they are mistaken. This John F. Upshaw died of Tuberculosis in 1900 as did his wife just after their son was born. This son is my wife's father and is listed on the 1900 census records with other records of people my wife knew. I have the exact date of their death but I do not have the marriage certificate of John F.Upshaw and his wife Minnie Leona Albright . Any thoughts or suggestions woould be appreciated xcept in

My great great grandfather was George Ellis Pless. He can be found in the 1850 Census living in Georgia. He was born, according to the Pless family Bible I have, in 1812. He married Sarah D.C. Wynn. They lived in Georgia for a number of years and then moved to Alabama where they both died in 1857. I do not know for sure who George E Pless's father was, but I think it may be Philip Pless, born around 1772 in Carrabus, North Carolina. The 1830 Census in Talbot, Georgia shows Philip with a son the age George E would have been.
Source Citation: Year: 1830; Census Place: Youngs Valley, Talbot, Georgia; Roll: 20; Page: 325.

George is my brick wall and I would love to find out where he came from.

I have Pless pictures from his line that I would be happy to e mail to anyone interested in this branch of the family -- the oldest ones are from the late 1800s.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Glenda Patton

Gregg,
Great website. I'd like to know how you came up with the idea that the Apperson's descended from Denmark. This is the first that I've heard of the family having a Danish origin. I'm well aware of and can trace back my Apperson line to Jean Louis Nogaret de la Valette, the Duke of Epernon, in France. He was Catholic but his son, Bernard converted to Protestant - making him a Huguenot. He had to flee France where he met a Welch woman. They had a son that they named John d'Epernon in honor of the Duke. He eventually came to New Kent County, VA and named his children Epperson. My 6th g-grandfather was Francis Epperson and he changed the names of all his children to Apperson. My g-grandmother was Virginia "Jennie" Belle Apperson.

Is there any link in your family to the MaCauley clan (Scottish) or to the McHenrys (Irish)?

Also, i NEED TO PICK YOUR OVERSIZED BRAIN. If a blood relative dies young, but married, has no issue though, what is the respectful way to include his young widow in the family tree?

Your DNA project is so impressive I cannot find a proper word to write even though I am an Honors major in English from the Harvard of the Midwest. It must take a tremendous amount of your time and money.

Looking forward to your answer. Much Appreciation, Bethany.

Young Bonner, are you still alive and kicking? I discovered that my descendents were preachers with outdoor chapels. Technically, my great grandparents were experts in trick photography - not circus freaks as is commonly thought. I'm simplifying. I'm giving up law as a profession. I'm looking for a man who is foolish (or smart?) enough to think he can make me a stay at home mother. I'm going to cook, sew, get a puppy, a few bunnies and maybe a few chickens with funny hairdos. I'm going to give Martha Stewart a run for her money. I'm going to be the dollar store/yard sale version. Good (and inexpensive) things :-)I'm tired of being a man. I'm also hoping to have a few more little miracles. I'm going to name them Ruby, Daisy and Delilah and treat them like Bonnie from Gone with the Wind. I always hated ponies, lol. I'm on the lookout for my Rhett Butler. I'm tired of being a damsel in distress :-) I quit my job for ethical reasons and told my father's circus freak, gypsey family to leave me be once and for all. They are so trashy. It's hard to be a frugal Irish/Scottish/German/Norse lady with these low life gypseys to contend with. Looking for a new Tara as well. I hope you are well. I enjoy your website very much, especially the picture gallery.

I am a direct descendant of Sarah and John William Roads. Their daughter, as we knew her, was Minnie Albertha, not Albertha Minnie, and she married a Walter Rogers. They had my grandfather Horace Rogers, who had my mother, Linda Rogers, who in turn, had me. My mother kept her maiden name after I was born, so until I married, I was a Rogers. We are having trouble finding John Roads parents, but with this extra information you have, we might be able to find him. I have found him as William on the 1870 Census in Illinois with wife Sarah and son George. They are living next to her parents, Moses and Sarah Schlosser.

Very nice site. My 6th great grandfather was Hans Casper Kolb and my brother has participated in the Kolb DNA project. The results are posted at http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/k/kolb/
I am also a volunteer at the Culp DNA page at http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/c/culp/
So far the DNA does not support what many have believed, that Hans Casper Kolb is related to Dielman Kolb of Germany, or the Mennonite brothers that settled in PA. But we only have one participant in Hans Casper Kolb’s line. We need more volunteers to have their DNA tested. It would also be helpful if more family tree sites that have ties to the Kolb and Culp families would have links to the 2 sites. Would you possibly be open to adding them to your page? Thanks, Bev Culp Epstein

They tie either to the Thomas Stephenson of Lincoln Co. or the Edward Stephenson just north in Garrard Co. This clan seem to have originated in Rockingham Co. VA (1740) then they apparently went to Washington Co. VA (south fork of Holstein) then to Lincoln Co. KY. Totally maddening search!

Elgin Clarence Owen and Addie Estelle Lemay Owen (Lawrence County Alabama). These are my grandparents and am wondering about the information that their marriage ended in divorce. I'm sure that is entirely possible but I'm wondering is there documentation of a divorce? If there is I've never known about it. To the best of my knowledge they were not living together at the time of his death. Thanks,

It appears that I need to make a correction to my submission. Clara (Clary) Chitty was my great, great grandmother. She was married to Thomas Kinkade Blake. She is buried in Bolivar, MO. After her death, the family moved to Bentonville, AR. I would love to hear from anyone
who may be related to Clara. Especially if you know anything about her parents or siblings.

It apears that we may have the same great great grandmother. If it is the same woman, she was married to Thomas Kinkade Blake and is buried in Bolivar, MO. I have seen her grave, and somewhere have a copy of her obituary, but would have to look for it, as I have not seen it in years. I also have a copy of her husband's obituary in AR, and it refers to her. I am descended from her son Jesse Columbus Blake, but also have a great deal of information on the lines of her other children. What I don't have is the information on her when she was living in Alabama and prior to her marriage. Which of her children did you descend from? Following her death, her husband and children moved to Bentonville, AR. You will find a lot of information on her family in MO and AR, but not much on her. I would love to hear from you as I would like to know more about her. We are exploring the possibility that her parents may have been Moravian missionaries to the Indians and she may have had some Indian blood. We are not sure about that and have previously focused on her English descent. I hope to hear from you.

Do you have any more information at all about Anderson Harris, son of Archibald Harris (son of Beverly Harris, Sr.)? I just received a death certificate of my ggg-aunt, stating that her father was Anderson Harris. The earliest dates I've found for my Harrises were in Lincoln Co., TN, then they moved to Rutherford Co., TN, near the Beverly Harris family, Rencher Spence, et al. I feel that this must be my Anderson Harris, but I can't find much about him. I suspect that he died before 1850, when his children were living with a Patterson and Kirkland family in the Lincoln Co., TN census. Looking forward to hearing from you! Carolyn BTW--your website is great!!! Just what I needed!!!

I grew up in foster homes, at 65 I am just now learning about my family. I have done things all my life that were different than those around me. I have been a crusader and defender of the under dog since a child. In searching for my family I have found that I inherited this trait from a family I did not know. I am not satisfied with just their names on a chart. I want to learn everything possible about their lives.

I am attempting to find information on Eliza Wheeler (Born about 1846) of Frostburg, MD. She Married Mark Williams at age 16. Mark might have been a brick layer. They Migrated to Woodsfield Ohio and had a son in 1863. He was called Mark but I believe this was his middle name. Mark married Anna White of Egypt Ohio. Anna was proud to be a Carter Member of the Womens Christina Temperance Union. She opposed alcohol becasue of the abuse women and children received when men were drunk. She was called a saint by neighbors. She nursed the sick and took in homeless family members. Not only did she march protesting drinking alcohol, she supported the right for wome and blacks to vote. Elza and Mark for would be my great great grandparents.

I am researching the West family, as well. I have one of the original copies of the West Family Registers. However, there are inaccuracies in this book, as I am sure with my own research. I am in the Thomas West Jr and Lucy Hall lineage via their son, Charles H. West who was married to Aquilla Buckner. Thomas West is my gggggfa. The ancestors to my Thomas West could be a myriad of individuals, according to various researchers. Family lore links my lineage to the Wests who settled in the early Virginia colony of whom several became governors. I have not been able to verify any of this. I have traced the descendents of Charles H. West and Aquilla Buckner and am quite certain that I have most of their information correct. Charles H. West and Aquilla Buckner's son, William Ellis West, married Narcissa Stroud. One of their son's was Thomas Marion West born 5 nov 1834, died 27 jan 1912 in West, McLennan County, Texas. Thomas Marion was married to Martha Jane Adams Steele. These two are my great great grandparents. The township of 'West' is named after this couple. I have a lengthy obituary on Thomas Marion West, as well as other historical documents which provide relatively accurate family information.

Hello Gregg,

I'm researching the family tree of Ephrum Daniel and Harriet A. Simmons and came across your family tree on Ancestry.com. I was wondering whether you would be willing to tell me your source - family bible, etc. - for my genealogy. (I'm doing this research for my doctor's wife - its not my family.)

I also have some information on a Harriet Daniel and a Julia Simmons (her mother). You may already have it by now, but here goes. The 1880 U.S. Census for Arkansas, Sebastian County, Salem City Prairie Township, E.D. 183, Roll T9-57, Film 1254057, Image 172 shows Julia Simmons (age 78, b. GA) living with Ephrium Danniel (the spelling keeps changing) and Harriet (age 40) and their children Lewisa, Robert Joseph & Johnie. Do you think this is the same family?

I'd appreciate any comments or help you could give me, and could share any of my research with you.

Thanks,
Karen High

Glad to see your site. I am looking for the family of Robert M. Mallatte b. 1860 in either Bolivar or Sunflower County. His son married Mary - ? Do you have any information about Robert Mallatte? I'm especially looking for Robert's first wife, Mary Griffin. Mary's marriage to Robert would have been her second and his first. Evidently Mary did not live long and Robert remarried.
Do you have any information about the Griffin family in Sunflower Co?
Thank you. Marcia
