Hi, I surfed in to your web site via Rootsweb looking for info on Georgia Augusta Tarver and found you had her and her spouse and son, my grandfather, and his wife who was a Gibbs who was a granddaughter of Sarah Catherine Carlisle and I noticed on your web page Carlisle's and Connely. I just surfed in and haven't really dove into it but I believe we are at least distantly related.

I am interested in the THOMAS family, I descend through
Massey Thomas, his son James Thomas, his dau. Margaret
Tolbert Thomas who m. Jeptha Ayars, and his son, James

I'd like to find out if Massey's lineage has been sorted
out, I find at least two places that don't agree.

My g-g-gf Jacob Spore was born in Shenandoah Co. VA in 1771, probably the son of Heinrich and Caterina Spohr, members of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Strasburg VA. Jacob, who married Maria Magdelina Dressler, died in Gibson Co. IN in 1849, and is buried at Andrew Smith Cem., Owensville IN. On the next farm lived Henry (1784-1860) and Elizabeth (Ramey) Spore. Relationship of Jacob and Henry has been lost over the years. It is hoped that this DNA project can determine if Jacob and Henry have common ancestry.

If that doesn't meet your approval I can unflag them. On one posting I said something about mitochondial DNA passing from father to son to son to son.

Everywhere I search for this family line it always leads back to William Snodgrass and Catherine Patterson and the turn of the 17th & 18th centuries, but no one seems to agree on whether they were from Ireland or Scotland and exactly which century they were both born in. Do you have any information on this? Thank you very much for your time. Sincerely, Laura :)

Hi Gregg,

Thanks so much for your web site and for sharing your info on the Ancestry World Tree Project!

From your posting on the Ancestry World Tree Project, I deduced that we have common ancestry. I am descended from the Green/Taylor Co., KY Sanders, but have been unable to prove/document the parents of my John Douglas Sanders, b. 1836. John Douglas married his cousin, Elizabeth Sanders, b. 1838. She was the daughter of John Chandler Sanders and Elizabeth Shipp Chandler. Many have said that John Douglas was the son of Eastin Sanders and Denarrzi Maddra Sanders, but that connection has never been proved and is illogical for several reasons. Yesterday, another researcher wrote me that someone in the past had shared with her that my John Douglas Sanders was actually the John "H." Sanders in the 1850 Taylor Co. KY census, who was the son of Samuel Sanders and Margaret W. Howe Sanders. (This connection would still make him a cousin to his wife, Elizabeth Sanders.) I looked at this census, but could not see how that middle initial could possibly be a "D". However, it could have been recorded incorrectly on the census. The person who told me this was unable to put me in touch with the person that had given her that info. I certainly would love to know WHY/HOW they arrived at that conclusion.

John Douglas was a Union soldier who was captured by the Confederates and was imprisoned at the notorious prison at Andersonville, GA. He died near Atlanta, GA. I have all kinds of documentation on his marriage, military service, death, etc., but none connecting him to his parents.
It would be wonderful if you have anything that could shed light on this mystery.

Ann Billings Rheney

I am trying to get information on my great, great, great grandfather James McDowell. The information I have so far indicates that he had at least two sons, Nathan S. born 1797 and John (maybe John P.) born 1799. He also had at least four daughters, Bedia (Biddy), Betsey, Letty & Hetty. His first wife's name is unknown to me, but he later married Liza Capps. Liza was the sister of the wives of his two sons. John married Rebecca Capps and Nathan married Esther.

Do you have any information on any of these people?

Thank you.

My earliest located Bonner ancestor is John W. Bonner b 1811 NC according to the 1880 Census White County Illinois. His name might have been John Washington Bonner as there were records of land purchased by John Washington 1830's - 1840's after the land office opened at Shawneetown, Illinois. John W. married Sarah C. Nelson in 1847. My great-grandfather, John Henry Bonner, born 1850, died 1927, buried White County.

Also, my husband has a Jenny Renfro who married William C. Kennedy in Maury County TN. The sister of William C., Alice Leila Kennedy (m. Jefferson Davis Hopper), is my husband's great-grandmother.

Hi, I very interested about Adolphus Lee that I found while looking thru you files you have at ancestry.com. What I've found out is that my ancestor, Sarah Louise Buchanan, born 16 April 1843 and died 27 Nov 1882 was supposedly married to a Adolphus Lee and that he died at some point during the Civil War. I do not have her marriage information since the Book that would have that information was either destroyed or lost. She lived for a time with the relatives of Adolphus Lee, a John Lee. She would later marry my 2G-Grandfather, Josiah Younger,Jr. and it thru them I descend. I've been up against a brickwall trying to find out more about Sarah's parents and to find out more about the Lees because I feel that somewhere i have blood lines from them too. Maybe you help point me in the right direction. Do you know where you Adolphus Lee is buried? My information has a John Henry Lee and Adolphus Lee as both as having fought in the Civil War in Company C, 52nd Tenn. Infantry Regiment, CSA. Adolphus Lee disappears from the records in 1864. The John Henry Lee that is mentioned as being in the 52d was married to Margaret Priscilla Buchanan.
Sincerely,
Eva Hickman

Greg, I am new to this hobby and I am trying to complete my Hubbard family genealogy because of a promise I made my brother on his death bed in Oct 2000. We began the searchback in 1997, but had no information and kept running into dead ends. We knew our grandfathers and grandmothers names, but actually did not know from where they came. I have since learned from an older cousin that my grandfather came from the Meadows of Dan area, VA. From searching the Brammer family, I found that all of the information given to us by an uncle was completely wrong. I believe our line goes like this, myself Gerald Lane, f. Henry Lane Jr., Henry Lane, Jonathan William, John, Jesse, Benjamin (1730),(possibly another Benjamin, (1713), Benjamin 1680, John, Matthew SR., and Robert Hubbard or Huberd. He was born in England about 1600 and came to VA. I have nothing further back than him. I have heard that names were changed and we were maybe Hobart's, Huberd's etc. If you can direct me in my search I would be grateful. If the Hobart line is in fact ours, there was a Robert Hobart and I have his line all the way back to 1230's. Thanks for your help. From the looks of your line we may be cousins way removed. Respectfully Yours: Gerald L. Hubbard

I believe Angie Graves may be my g-grandmother. My g-grandfather was Joseph H. Lile, born in Green County, KY, who married Angie D. Graves in Taylor County, KY on 7-31-1877. I have Angie's DOB as Abt 1856 based on census records. You don't show a DOB for Angie. I am trying to confirm whether they are one and the same. Thanks.

Hi Greg, I am pretty sure that Ancil B. Vann was my husband's gggrandfather. His great aunt insisted that his name was Aaron. Said her Father, Benjamin F. Vann (b.1859 in Ark. m.Arnetta Tennessee 'Nettie' Sullivan) parents died when he and his brother were young and old uncle Billy Henry raised them. I have been stuck on the Aaron dilema for a long time. I think they went back and forth to Paris, Texas some from Arkansas. I have some info on Aaron and Ancil, just not sure. Have you ever seen your Ancil listed as Aaron? Thanks much, Jane Ashley Vann P.S. Your website is great!

Was curious as to your Harris family after seeing a post of yours on the Harris GenForum regarding the will of Robert Harris who willed to a grandson, Thomas Harris, son of Thomas. I, too, have found errors in some of the early Harris published genealogies. It's difficult to get these errors reversed and corrected. I know cause I've tried. I have a Thomas Harris d 1782 Orange Co. Va (formerly of Louisa/Hanover) had a son, Thomas. Thought my Thomas was somehow, someway involved with the Robert Harris of Granville, N.C. I've extracted the Thomas Harris wills of Va mentioned in Va Wills and Admin. 1632-1800--will post them to the Harris GenForum. Could you post the 1799 Thomas Harris will you mention in your Harris GenForum post? Thank you, Gregg.

Gregg...am fascinated by your DNA project and delighted to find your web site. My gggrandfather was Hubbard Bonner Taylor, a Butler County, Alabama hotelier and shipping agent in the early 19th Century. Am almost certain his mother was a Bonner but no positive evidence of his mother or father's name has been found, although the Bonner name has been passed down in every generation since. Would love to connect the dots. Any ideas?

At the time that J.P. Dobbs married her, her surname was Van Dyke, the surname of the husband that deserted her. J.P. had earned the highest level of achievement there was with the Masonic Lodge in Lansing, KS and therefore they gave him a home in Masonic Park. The time frame I refer to is estimated as the mid-late 1800's. Until his retirement, J.P. was superintendant

Hey
Doing research on my Grandfather his name is Wesley D Colclough 1916 - 1984 , His dad is Ernest Colclough (1886 - 1924 ) . Ernest died at a kinda young age of a brain tumor ( according to Orphanage papers ) and his childrren were placed in The Oxford Orphanage ( Wesley age 9 and Veron 6 ) his wife was Mary Ella Mcghee Colclough . She remarried and her husband didn't want to bear the responsibilty of children that wasn't his. Never asked my GF about his family nor did my mother and sis/brothers. Ernest dad is Jourdan or jourdon T Colclough and I think his dad is John T Colclough.I think his dad is Alexander Colclough (1795 - 1831 ) but that is as far as I go because they say william is his father but he died in 1779? and Alexander was born 1795. Any more info would help thanks rigsb005@aol.com

Hi, I got your letter. Can't get into the url you sent. Says it doesn't open on this server, or some such. I tried to just go into rootsweb freepages. Didn't find it there, so, I checked out your website.
I don't see it here either. Where do I look now.
I really appreciate all you are doing on this.
Thanks Sue

William R. "Buck" Williams m Winnifred Cotton ca 1825. Both were born in SC, according to our family history. His brother George W. Williams married Mary "Polly" Cotton in Greene AL. We do not know whether the women were related, but we are tracking Alexander Cotton, b 1768. We do not know the names of the parents of the Williams brothers. Two more Williams brothers married Mary E. Hopkins and Sarah Ann Martin. The brothers and families went to Pickens AL and on to Choctaw MS about 1836.

My Swallow family were in Indiana. I have verified that my great-grandfather lived in Brownsville, Union county Indiana. He married Catharine Farrell, on Aug 1, 1870. I found her family in Brownsville, In--- 1870 census records. Her parents were Michael and Mary Farrell. They both were born in Ireland. Catharine was born in Ohio. I need to research this more, and find when they came to the US. Also I need to do more on Joshua Swallow, to find where he was born and when he died.

I am trying to locate Henry (Heinrich) Slusser/Schlosser. He was born 12 Jul 1787 according to his death record in "New Hampton" PA. His wife's name was Margaret and he had a daughter Catherine Margaret born ca. 1821 in Pennsylvania. She married John Neely. Henry moved to Genesee Co. New York and then to Livingston Co., Michigan.

I am wondering if this could be Johann Henrich Schlosser (son of Conrad Schlosser and Eva Maria Margaretha Nelig). Do you have any information on his marriage, children, or death?

I would appreciate any information you can give me.

Hello, I found your site in my ever-continuing quest to research my family roots and branches. I'm a direct descendant of William and Eleanor Neel(e)y, and Thomas Pickle, whom you have documented well here, is my 4th cousin twice removed. The man sounds as if he was pretty amazing... not only wealthy but still having children in his 70s! That picture of the 1902 schoolkids was neat; in addition to Pickles, there are Neelys and Gambills, who are probably related, though I'm not 100 percent sure how (obviously Neely is in my tree, but there are some Gambills as well). Ah, for every branch that gets better developed, another one is waiting to grow...

Thanks for the great website and presentation.

Gregg: I have noted an 1850 Census entry in Todd Co., KY (Dist. 2, p. 256B, #172/172) which seems to fit the Levi Lentz you say m. Louise (could it be Levisa?) Coffman.

Levi Lents, 36, NC; Visa, 27, Tenn.; Ben, 111, Tenn.; Nancy J., 8, Tenn: Susan, 6, Tenn.. George, 2, Tenn.

I am not related to these people and have no further data. I am tracing the Trout/Troutt surname and one of them is in the next household.
