DR. R A. KOOKEN --1897
[Dr. Robert Andrew Kooken, I, MD]
Dr. Kooken came to Hamilton in 1891, according to the
old paper. He was a graduate of Trinity University, the medical university
at Louisville, KY., and in 1892 took special work in the New York
Polyclinic school where he graduated with honor. In 1896 he returned to
New York and took more special work. Quoting from the 1897 paper:
"He is at present a member of the Board of Medical
Examiners for this district. Dr. Kooken’s professional career has been
one of unwavering success. He is a man of robust physical makeup, capable
of doing a vast amount of work. He acts promptly in emergencies and with
full confidence in his ability to meet the demands of the occasion. His
liberality to those in indigent circumstances is will known and his free
practice among the poor has made him deservedly popular."
Still living in Hamilton (1938) are his widow and his
son, Dr. R. A. Kooken of the Cleveland-Kooken-West Clinic.
