been sent home from the Civil War because of illness.

century in July, 1994. Copies
of "Our Fergusson Family" (prepared by Elreeta Crain
Weathers) were sold to acquire money for a marker. Death record for
W.H.J. gave Virginia's name as "RANEY" & for S.V.

26-Oct-1911

and Mary deeded their farm to
Baylor
College
in Belton.
This represented their life work.
The farm was sold for $12,000 and the money was used to build
Ferguson Hall on the Baylor College Campus.
In 1869 Charles Ogal and Mary moved to Bell County and
settled at Prairie Dell. They
sacrificed in many ways, often denying themselves pleasures and even
necessities that they might put more into Christian education.
Mary: After the death of her husband, Mary lived on
the Baylor College campus and was cared for there until her death in
1914. After the death of
their only child, they reared orphan children--sometimes as many as
7 at a time. After
Baylor College moved to Belton, they became interested in Christian
education for young women and lived frugally so that they could give
money to help young women gain an education.
