Virgie Lee Chick, 92, died Wednesday, March 17, at Hamilton Nursing Home after an extended illness.

Services were Saturday, March 20, at Riley Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Williamson of Sugarland officiating. Burial was in the Carlton Cemetery.

Mrs. Chick was born Oct. 21, 1906, in the Sunshine community of Hamilton County, the daughter of Joseph Bentley and Addie Diltz Sharp. She was married to Elmer Clinton Chick on May 19, 1923, in Carlton. They lived most of their life in the Carlton community. He preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 1972. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, a brother, a son, Vanderell Chick, and a son-in-law, Fonzy Williamson.

She was a homemaker and loved working and caring for the elderly. She worked in nursing homes as a cook and medication aide. For many years she served as a home companion, helping people live at home as long as they could. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Lauda Mae Williamson of Hamilton; a son, Joe Chick of Sulphur, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Velma Truett Sharp of Hamilton; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Dana Allison, Derel Chick, Ronny Mucha, Marc Chick, Barry Wilkerson and Steve Williamson.

DENMAN, JAMES ALSTON

James Alston Denman, 88, died Jan. 15 at Hamilton General Hospital. Funeral services were held Jan. 18 at Riley Funeral Home with Rev. Dean Reed officiating. Burial was at Carlton Cemetery.

Mr. Denman was born Feb. 17, 1911 in Comanche County, the son of Ab and Annie Geye Denman.

He lived most of his life in the Lamkin community of Comanche County where he was a farmer and rancher.

Mr. Denman was married to Marguerite Carr at Van Horn on Feb. 2, 1932. She preceded him in death on July 17, 1997.

Two sisters, Anabelle Denman and Alta Neely and three brothers, A.B., Arron and Ackney Denman precede him in death.

Survivors include his son-in-law, Gaylon Jones of Lamkin; three grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff Jones and wife Carol and Gaylon Jones and wife Deann, all of Lamkin, and Susan and husband Allen Leggett of Gustine; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and two sisters, Alma Ruth Moss of Lamkin and Angeline Morgan of Odessa.

Audie Lee was the oldest child of Ira Jackson GIBSON and Jeanetta Elzora "Nettie" GRAVES. Audie married Clora Laura DeVOLIN on 8 June, 1913, in Hamilton County, TX--Hamilton County, TX, Marriage Record Book 6, Pg. 122. Clora, a Hamilton County teacher, was born 14 December, 1892, and died in June, 1984.

Audie was a Deputy Sheriff in Hamilton County. As Audie was attempting to arrest a man/men who had robbed a drugstore in Carlton, he was shot and killed by the robber/s.

Audie and Clora had one daughter, Voleta Beatrice GIBSON, born 21 Jun 1916.

Ephraim Alanzo was a son of Ephraim Parmley GIBSON and Rebecca Jane McILHANEY. His tombstone has "E. A. GIBSON" and the inscription is barely legible.

He was buried beside the grave of his mother.

FUNERAL HELD FOR MRS. G. I. [sic] GIBSON

From a Hamilton Newspaper- May, 1946

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, May 23, at 3 o'clock at the Baptist Church for Ms. I. J . Gibson, after several months' illness at her home in East Dublin.

Miss Nettie Graves was born in Tennessee August 29, 1872. Was married to Ira J. Gibson November 8, 1891, and to this union were born five sons, Claud of Carlton, Clarence of Hico, and Paul of Lingleville; four daughters: Mrs. John Sowell of Childress, Mrs. H. B. Murray of Wills Point, Mrs. Oran Gilbreath of Dublin, and Mrs. Vernon Sandefer of Sinton. Other survivors are one brother, Wade Graves of Oglesby, and three sisters, Mrs. A. E. Cox of Lockney, Mrs. T. L. Nance of Waco, and Mrs. J. C. Ward of Gatesville; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Audie and Lewis.

Mrs. Gibson was converted and united with the Baptist Church at the age of 13 and was a faithful member until God called her home. Rev. Fred V. Parnell, local pastor, conducted the services assisted by Rev. Oby Nelson, pastor of the Baptist Church at Dublin. Burial was in the local cemetery by the side of her husband and sons.

Pallbearers were Bailey Sharp, Avery Coffman, Arthur Burden, Fern Jordan, and Otho Stuckey.

Randall was a son of Ephraim Parmley GIBSON and Rebecca Jane McILHANEY. He married Mary Lenora "Molly" CAUTHEN on 12 Dec 1882. Randal and Molly moved from Coryell County to Hamilton County by 1899. Randall was a Baptist preacher who pastored many of the Baptist churches in Hamilton County, as well as Coryell Baptist Church in Coryell County. Most of these early churches met in the community school house and had services only one Sunday each month, so frequently he pastored two or more churches at the same time. Randall played an active roll in the Hamilton County Baptist Association. He performed the wedding ceremony or at least 83 couples in Hamilton County between 1899 and 1946.

Rebecca was a daughter of James William McILHANEY and Mary Jane GIBSON. Rebecca was the widow of Ephraim Parmley GIBSON, whom she married on 19 October, 1851 in TN. Ephraim was born 26 September, 1817, Henderson County, TN, (son of Jesse GIBSON and Elizabeth PARMELY) died 8 August, 1907, Evant, Coryell County, TX.

Their children were James Henry, Mary Jane GIBSON OSBORNE, George Franklin (b. 15 December, 1854, d. 3 Apr 1864, Buried: Coryell Church Cemetery, Coryell County, TX), Jesse Thomas, Elizabeth Ann GIBSON BARNETT, Randolph Hunter "Randall," John Parmley, Marquis Layfette "Fate, " Claud, Ira Jackson, David Martin, Ephraim Alanzo, and William Archibald GIBSON (b. about. September, 1876, d. 11 Dec 1889, Buried: Coryell Church Cemetery, Coryell County, TX.).

The inscription of Rebecca's tall, slender tombstone is barely legible.

Rites Held Sunday For B William Greer, Longtime Resident

Funeral services for B William Greer, 84, were held Sunday afternoon, Nov. 9 at 2:30 O'clock in the Barrow-Rutledge Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Tim Crosby, Burial was in the Carlton Cemetery.

Mr. Greer was born in Henderson County August 28, 1891, son of the late Hezekiah and Salley Sinclair Greer. He passed away Saturday November 8, 1975 in the Hico City Hospital.

He was a retired farmer and had lived in the Hico area for the past 82 years. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie Greer of Wichita Falls; three daughters, Mrs. Delphia Killion of Alpine, Mrs. Mattie Hamilton of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Winnie Mays of Fort Worth; two sons, George W. Greer of Dublin and Calvin Greer of Irving. Two sisters Mrs. Callie Haynes of Dallas and Mrs. Mary Lee Paul of Los Angeles, Calif. 10 Grandchildren and 15 Great-Grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers were E. M. Wright, Jerry Needham, V. M. Cornett, I.D. Cook, Don Kennedy and D. H. Priest.

GREER, GEORGIA ANNE (LATHAM)

This was in the Hico paper, page 6 dated 2-23-1989.

Graveside services for Georgia Annie Latham Greer, 91, were held Friday, Feb. 17, at the Carlton Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Bob Perria under the direction of the Rutledge Funeral Home of Hico. Mrs. Greer died February 15, 1989 at the Village Nursing home.

Born June 30, 1897 in Hico, she was the daughter of George Aaron Latham and Zula Mattie Snellings. She had lived all her life in Hico. She married B. W. Greer on Christmas Day, 1913 and he preceded her in death November 8, 1975. She was also preceded in death by one daughter. She was a member of the Baptist Church and was a housewife.

Mrs. Greer is survived by three daughters, Delphia Killion of Alpine, Mattie Wickman of Maywood, CA., and Shirley Mays of Fort Worth; two sons, G. W. Greer of Dublin and Calvin Greer of Blossom; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

HAILE, WILLIAM RAY "BILL"

William Ray "Bill" Haile, 57, died Oct. 8 at Songbird Lodge in Brownwood after a lengthy illness with cancer. Services were Oct. 9 at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel at Early. Graveside services and burial were at Carlton Cemetery in Carlton.

Mr. Haile was born Nov. 17, 1941 in Hamilton County, the son of the late Nobel and Talma Haile. He had made his home in Brownwood since 1991.

Survivors include his fiancé, Laurie Spradlin of Lake Brownwood, three brothers, Tom Haile of Temple, Jim Haile of Midland and John Haile of Comanche; one sister, Ian Landau of Gatesville, an uncle, Ray Haile of Hico; three aunts, Adena Haile of Hamilton, Margie Anderson of Comanche and Vaieta Sullivan of Gatesville.

HARMON, WILLIAM EDWARD

William Edward Harmon, 103, of Carlton died Sept. 6, 2003 at Hamilton General Hospital. Funeral services were held Sept. 8 at Rutledge-Jones Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Carlton Cemetery, Brother David Keith officiating.

Mr. Harmon was born Nov. 24, 1899 in Mills County. He was married to Lois Spinks on March 4, 1922 in Goldthwaite. She preceded him in death on March 13, 1999.

He was a farmer all of his life, living in Mills, Hamilton and Comanche counties. He spent three years homesteading in New Mexico. He continued to drive his car, garden and raise cattle until he was
97 years old.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Norma Lee Howell; sons-in-law, Jack Brown, John Stogsdill, Leamon Wood, Norman Hansen; a granddaughter, Deborah Ann Wood; his parents, M. T. and Virena Jane Randles Harmon; three brothers, John, Duke and Jim Harmon; two sisters Katie Lee Kelley and Arleta Huffman.

Survivors include his two daughters, Anna Gene Hansen of Hamilton and Carlene Siems and husband Ervin of Waco; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Linda Kay Longino, 57 of Fort Worth, died March 29 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. April 2 in Rutledge-Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Ferel Little officiating. Burial will be at Carlton Cemetery.

Mrs. Longino was born Oct. 12, 1945. She moved from Carlton to Fort Worth in 1964. She was married to James Daniel Longino, he preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1989. She was a shipping clerk with Williams and Dickey Clothing Manufacturing and a member of the Carlton Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband and her father, Sam Sharp.

Survivors include her daughter, Marie Sharp of Carlton; a daughter, Danna L. West and husband Larry of Seguine; a son, James Longino and wife Kalinda of Mansfield; a sister, Nita Little and husband Ferel of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Gene Sharp and wife Billie of Fort Worth; four grandchildren, Baylie West, Jimmy Nate Longino, Dakota Franklin, Donivan Jensen-Dutton; a special friend, Les Basler; sisters-in-law, Bettie Anderson and husband Jerry and Jan Kincheloe and husband A. V. and by several nieces and nephews.

Accident claims fireman

FIREMAN KILLED- Clint Rice, 28, a member of the Carlton Volunteer Fire Department died Tuesday afternoon when this tanker truck failed to negotiate a sharp corner on FM Rd. 219 between Carlton and Olin. - A tragic accident claimed the life of a Carlton Volunteer Fireman Tuesday afternoon en route to a grassfire west of Hamilton. Clint Rice, 28, was responding to a large grass fire in a department tanker truck when it rolled over on a sharp corner on FM Rd. 219 between Carlton and Olin.
Trooper Stephen Schwartz said the accident was reported at 2:27 p.m. Hamilton County Justice of the Peace James Lively pronounced Rice dead at the scene.
Fire departments from throughout the area responded to the grass fire about six miles west of Hamilton on Highway 36 and firemen were stunned to learn the devastating news.

Clinton Dwayne Rice, 28, died Nov. 22, 2005. Funeral services were held Nov. 25, in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Carlton Cemetery with Rev. Marvin Andrews officiating.

Mr. Rice was born August 7, 1977 at Andrews, the son of James Bruce and Lola Novak Rice.

He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1995 where he was active in FFA, judging lambs, and land judging management. After graduating from high school he entered the Air Force serving in Alaska, Korea and Iraq.

After returning home he was married to Stephanie Burkeen on January
6, 2001 at Hamilton.

Mr. Rice loved to fish, ride his dirt bike and restore old cars and was in the process of restoring two 1967 Mustangs.

He was a member of the Carlton Volunteer Fire Department and a mechanic for Blackwell Electric.

Survivors include his wife, Stephanie Rice of Carlton; parents, James and Lola Rice of Carlton; maternal grandparents, Stan and Vern Novak of Graham; paternal grandparents Lula and Robert Avery of Granbury; a sister, Jennifer Hilbert and her three children; James, Stanley and Micah Hilbert, all of Prairie Hill; a half sister Kathrine Goins of Zephyr and one half brother Jason Rice of Fort Worth as well as a host of other family members and friends.

Pallbearers were Damon Thompson, Bobby Pafford, Greg Thompson, David Slocomb, Lynn Smith and Dewaine Murphy.

SHARP, JOE BAILEY

Joe Bailey Sharp, 92, died Aug. 2 at Brighton Gardens Health Care Center in San Antonio.

Services were set for Wednesday, Aug. 4 at Rutledge Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Carlton Cemetery.

Mr. Sharp was born October 23, 1906 in Hico, the son of Watt and Ella Sharp. He was married to Leona Bain in Carlton on Sept. 10, 1929. He was a carpenter and a farmer.

He lived in San Antonio, Waco and for 50 years in Carlton. He was a Methodist.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Peggy Jo Sharp Thompson; three brothers, Purley, Sam and Watt Sharp and three sisters, Lorene, Freda and Dickie.

Survivors include his wife, Leona Sharp of San Antonio; two sisters, Margie White of Carlton and Bill McKnight of Waco; a brother, Doc Sharp of Midland; a granddaughter, Angela Thompson Braswell and her husband Gordon of San Antonio; a grandson, Todd Thompson and his wife Robin of Athens; and four great-grandchildren, Kris, Erin, Tyler and Spencer.

Pallbearers were Gordon Braswell, Kris McGilvery, Todd Thompson, Don Thompson, Bruce Mohan and Gene Sharp.

SHARP, SAM CLARK

Sam Clark Sharp, 87, of Carlton, died June 12, 1998, in the Hamilton Hospital. Services were held June 15 at the Rutledge Funeral Home Chapel in Hico. Rev. Ferel Little and Rev. Bill Campbell presided.

Burial was in the Carlton Cemetery.

Mr. Sharp was born April 22, 1911 in Hamilton County and lived most of his life in Carlton. He was a blacksmith.

On July 1, 1935, he married Marie Walton in Carlton.

He was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge #519 and was hon-ored with the Golden Trowel Award. He was a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters and a son-in-law, Nita and Ferel Little of Buna and Linda Longino of Fort Worth, and one son, Gene Sharp of Fort Worth. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Bill McKnight of Waco and Marjorie White of Carlton, two brothers, Bailey Sharp of Waco and Doc Sharp of Midland, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sis-ters.

Pallbearers were Larry Sharp, Charles Sharp, Wes Little, James Longino, Larry West and Michael Evans.

Jack Harman Trammell Sr. 91 passed away at Hamilton March 10, 2003. Funeral services were held March 12 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Keith officiating. Burial followed in the Carlton Cemetery.

Mr. Trammell was born at Pidcoke, Texas January 10, 1912, the son of Osmond Flecther Trammell and Lydia Morrow Trammell. He was married to Wynama Guest on January 27, 1939 at Stephenville, Texas. She preceded him in death on August 17, 1983.

Mr. Trammell was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, farmer and rancher. He was a member of the Olin Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife; a son, Jack H. Trammell Jr.; four sisters, Winnie Rogers, Floy Watkins, Valora Edwards, Jessie Edwards; two brothers, Ernest Trammell and James Trammell.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Pamela Trammell of Hamilton; two grandchildren, Jack Harman (Jay) Trammell III of Brownwood, Dawn Groves of Burleson; one great-granddaughter Amanda Trammell; three sisters, Faye Griggs of Evant, Mildred Edmiston and Marie Pointer both of Hamilton and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were David Pointer, Matt Lees, Bob Raus, Preston Pointer, Don Haile and Hayden Edwards.

Fonzy Williamson, 68, died Sunday, July 26, at Methodist Hospital in Houston after an extended illness.

Services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Graham and Dr. Tim Moody officiating. Burial was in the Carlton Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Riley Funeral Home.

Mr. Williamson was born Jan. 5, 1930, in Carlton, the son of W.W. and Francis Elizabeth Donald Williamson. He was married to Lauda Mae Chick on Nov. 27, 1948, in Stephenville.

He was a veteran, having served his country during the Korean conflict with the US Army, working in communications. After leaving the army, he joined the telephone company, working in various parts of Texas and moving to Hamilton in 1966. After 42 years, he retired in Hamilton as the district manager with United Telephone. He was a lifelong rancher and a member of the Hamilton Lions Club. He was also a past member of the Hamilton City Council and served as a deacon of First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rosaline Williamson; and three brothers, W. H. Williamson, Nolan Williamson and J.P. Williamson.

Survivors include his wife, Lauda Mae Williamson of ----; a daughter, Sharee Wilkerson and husband Barry of ------; a son, Steve Williamson and wife Robin of ------; three grandchildren, Scott Wilkerson, Jonathan Williamson and Lauren Williamson; a sister, Juanita Hyatt of Abilene; and three brothers, Williard Williamson of Hugo, Okla., and George Williamson and Don Williamson, both of Houston.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Williamson, Royce Williamson, Gary Williamson, Darrell Williamson, Dana Allison, Kelly Allison and Ronnie Andrews.

Honorary pallbearers were Charnie Raibourn, Clyde Raibourn, Jerry Munson, Dale Caraway, David Lengefeld, Dale Chilton, Alex Catoe, Mickey Kinsey and Tex Allison.
