ACCOUNT OF CATTLE BUSINESS:
In 1858, John, William and Harmon Gaskins entered into a partnership in the cattle business with Daniel Avera, who had that same year moved to the southern end of Clinch County, near the Florida line. In December, 1858, Echols County was formed out of the portion of Clinch County, and parts of Lowndes County, where Mr Avera had settled near Baker's Mill and Hebron Church. Hebron Church is now just over the Florida line, in Hamilton County. John Gaskins died in 1865, Harmon Gaskins died in 1877 and William Gaskins died in 1880. The children of these three brothers continued the partnership in the cattle business with Daniel Avera until his death in 1888. Daniel Avera and wife are buried at Good Hope Baptist Church in Hamilton County, Florida. (Source and correctness unknown, but similar information can be found in the Huxford, "Pioneers of the Wiregrass" series)
