Francis Ernest Waltz was born in Dayton Township, Iowa County, Iowa, on April 27, 1882,  the son of Jacob Michael Waltz and Angela Mary Wagner. 

Before he was born, his family lived in Chest Springs, Cambria County, Pa.  His parents were encouraged to move to Iowa by his maternal grandparents, Jacob and Jane Wagner.

On Sept. 23, 1902, Francis married Della Cecil Brown in New Hampton, Chickasaw Co. Della was born on Jan. 3, 1884, the daughter of John Allen Brown and Celesta Kannal.

Francis and Della had three children:

Della died on Feb. 2, 1969 in Oskaloosa, Mahaska County.  Francis died on June 15, 1970. They are both buried at Indianapolis Cemetery.
