Elizabeth Ann Waltz was born on July 8, 1857, the first-born child of John Waltz and Elizabeth Yahner. This family lived on the Waltz homestead in Chest Township, Cambria County, which was originally purchased by John's father, George M. Waltz.
Elizabeth was baptized on July 12, 1857 at St. Benedict Church in Carrolltown. Her godparents were her George Waltz and Elizabeth Yahner (this name was spelled "Janer" in the church register). The officiating priest was P. Oswald
Elizabeth's father died when she was only 6 years old.
Around 1880, she married Michael David Walters. Michael was born in 1855 in Loretto, PA, the son of Augustin Walters and Agnew Levi. Michael attended St. Francis College, and became a teacher of a one-room school house. His class consisted of approximately 30 children, grades 1 through 8. Michael played the violin.
Elizabeth & Michael had 7 children:
Elizabeth Ann (Waltz) Walters
I have been unable to find this family in the 1880 census.
The family was living in Elder Township, Cambria County, PA at the time the 1900 census was taken. Michael was 44 years old. It was listed that he and Elizabeth had been married for 20 years, which puts their wedding date around 1880 (not 1870 as I was previously told). This makes more sense, because their first child was born in 1880. Living with them were six of their seven children: Arthur (19); Frank (16); Eugene (12); Regina (10); Leonora (6); and Edna (5 months).
I
found a mention of Elizabeth's husband in the Cambria Freeman,
Ebensburg, PA. Friday, 1 JUN 1900
(Conrad Yeager was Elizabeth's step-father.) The family was still living in Elder Township, Cambria County at the time of the 1910 census. Michael (54) and Elizabeth (52) were listed there with two of their children: Frank (26) and Edna (10).
At the time of the 1920 census, the family was still in Elder Township. Michael was 64 and Elizabeth was 62. Their daughter Edna (19) was living with them, along with a nephew, Alphonse Yeager.
Elizabeth Ann died in 1926, but Michael should be listed in the 1930 census. To date, I have been unable to locate him.
Michael David died in 1941. Elizabeth and Michael are both buried in St. Boniface Cemetery, Elder Township, Cambria County, Pennsylvania.
