Edward Samuel Waltz was born in Dayton Township, Iowa County, Iowa, on March 15, 1878,  the son of Jacob Michael Waltz and Angela Mary Wagner. 

Before he was born, his family lived in Chest Springs, Cambria County, Pa.  His parents were encouraged to move to Iowa by his maternal grandparents, Jacob and Jane Wagner.

On May 22, 1906, Edward married Elizabeth Catherine Gotto. Elizabeth was born on Feb. 25, 1882, the daughter of William Gotto and Mary Schilling.

Edward and Elizabeth had two children:

Edward was an office worker for a railroad. 

Edward died on Feb. 23, 1952 and is buried in Bankston, Dubuque Co.  Elizabeth died on Oct. 4, 1956 and is also buried in Bankston.
