Charles S. Waltz

Charles Samuel Waltz was born in Dayton Township, Iowa County, Iowa, on March 4, 1878, the son of Jacob Michael Waltz and Angela Mary Wagner.

A few years before he was born, his family from from Chest Springs, Cambria County, Pa. His parents were encouraged to move to Iowa by his maternal grandparents, Jacob and Jane Wagner.

Charles married, Sarah Gertrude ("Gertie") Snyder on April 11, 1899 in New Hampton, Chickasaw County, Iowa. Gertie was born on May 8, 1880, the daughter of James Wesley Snyder and Lydia Ann Leichtenwalner.

Charles and Gertie had eight children:

	Eugene Milton, born July 2, 1900
	Lydia Josephine, born Mar 10, 1905
	Cozette Angela, born June 2, 1908
	William Esley, born Jan. 18, 1910
	John Judson, born Jan. 12, 1914
	Juanita Martha, born July 7, 1917
	Bernita Margaret, born July 7, 1917
	Anita Gertrude, born July 7, 1917 (died the same day)

Charles and Gertie farmed for many years new New Hampton and later retired to a home in the city.

Charles died on Feb. 11, 1962 and is buried in New Hampton, Chickasaw Co. Gertie died on Oct. 7, 1973 in Minneapolis, but is also buried in New Hampton.
