History
& Acheivements :
Ada Isabela Pillidge was the second wife
of Maris Sanlaville. She married in her later years. Marius was
the chief engineer involved in the construction of the bridges at
Patterson, Largs, and Morpeth, he also built the Dunmore Bridge

Lyons, France.
- Became a naturalised Australian citizen on 13th
December, 1893 1st Marriage : Married 25th May 1875 ,aged
19 years to Emaline Mills (b1860 ....) aged 15 years.
Emaline was a lace maker in Nottingham, England. Marius
worked on the looms at the start of the machine age
,making French lace and was then hired to make looms for
English lace and also worked on the trains in France.
Marius & Emaline travelled to Western Australia in
late 1875. When gold was discovered , Marius was engaged
to build the railway line from Kalgoorlie to Coolgardie,
the first railway line in Western Australia, which
incidentally was made entirely of wood. Marius &
Emanline travelled by ship to Melbourne with their son
Victor, who was born during this voyage & then on to
Sydney aboard the "Cheviot ".( The
"Cheviot" sank in a bay later named Cheviot
Bay, the same bay where Prime Minister Harold Holt
drowned ). Their other children were: Albert (1879),
Pauline (1881),George (1886), Emily B (1892) & Frank
J (1898). Marius worked at the Balmain Colliery which at
that time ran under the harbour and could hear the noise
of the boat propellers overhead. During this period
Marius also worked for an engineering firm ,Pope &
Maher, and worked on water reservoirs at Bass Hill &
Killara, both of which are still in use today. Marius was
the chief engineer involved in construction of bridges at
Paterson, Largs, Morpeth and built the Dunmore bridge.
\par \par Marius, a huge man, was over 6 feet 4 inches
tall and weighed 23 stone when he retired at the age of
80 years. He died aged 82 years of age and is buried at
Campbell's Hill Cemetery. 2nd Marriage Marius married Ada
Isabella Pillidge in 1929, Marius aged 74 years & Ada
I aged 50 years. There were no children from this
marriage.
