Oliver Lines of Descent from Olivers in the Charlotte and Caroline County Regions of Virginia

This web page was first mounted on March 15, 2008 by Sheila Schmutz. sheila.schmutz@usask.ca and updated on April 18, 2009. This is a private webpage that has no "official" connection to FTDNA or the Oliver Surname Y DNA Project there, or at any other such company. Please address corrections and additions to her. If you wish to correspond with other participants whose lines are shown, she will forward your message to them.

Mr. Pat Oliver coordinates The Oliver Y DNA Project. The results of the Oliver men who have participated in Y DNA testing through this project are shown on his webpage. This webpage focuses only on the men who are highlighted in the second group colored in aqua that consists of 3 men currently, among the many Oliver men who have been tested thus far.

I am not related to this group but present this page as a "sister" page to the one on the men in the "bright yellow group" to whom I am related. Both groups have a connection to Carolline County, VA. Also, I have had a long standing interest in the Oliver Families who settled in Georgia, and one of these did.

Note that the names of the participants and their Fathers are not shown to protect the privacy of the individuals. If individuals do not wish their line to be shown at all, please contact me and I will respect your wishes.

The chart above illustrates the lines of the 4 men who have been Y DNA tested and match. Complete genealogy is not available for all lines.

Descendant 13316 states that Joseph Oliver who died in Charlotte Co, Va in 1786 had lived in King William County, VA earlier in his life. He was born before 1725. The northern third or so of King William County became part of the new Caroline County in 1727. Therefore it is quite possible that Joseph was the grandfather or great-uncle of Marshall Oliver who was born in Caroline County about 1780.

This map of Virginia shows the county boundaries at the present time. The region that was once part of the area that eventually became Caroline County is circled in yellow. Charlotte county is to the Southwest of this and Bath County is to the West of this by some distance.
