Stained Glass In Brechin Cathedral

The stained glass windows at Brechin Cathedral, which date from after The Reformation, are among its more recent additions. Brechin was considered a "city" in the 9th century, and has been recorded as having a church at least since that time. An Irish order called Celi Dei or "Servants of God" brought organized Christianity to Brechin in 800 C.E., and one of the first histories of the Scottish kings was compiled here. The first church in Brechin was Pictish, and the present cathedral dates from the 13th century. Next to the cathedral, however, stands a round tower that was erected about 1000 C.E. This round tower resembles similar structures erected in Ireland to scan the coast for signs of marauding Vikings.
