Peering Out Of Dirleton Castle

We spent a lot of time at (and film on) Dirleton Castle, which was built in the 13th century by the Anglo-Norman nobleman Johannes de Vaux. Unlike Maclellan's Castle, which was more like a big stone townhouse, this was a real castle. It had a moat, a drawbridge, a drum-like central tower, a murder hole just above the front gate down through which boiling oil could be poured, and thick stone walls. The shot below was taken from a window in the main tower, and frames the ruins of the courtyard.
