Urquhart Castle Looking Bigger Than It Really Is

I am always attracted to the more delapidated corners of medieval castles. I hunch inside these and use their craggy edges at a framing device. The stone wall on the right is no more than six feet high, but the presence of the people behind it, dwarfed by distance, almost give it the illusion of being ten times higher. Don't get me wrong. Urquhart is a big castle, but its bigness lies in the way it sprawls over the shores of Loch Ness, not in how monumental it is.
