Dunvegan Castle - Home Of The R1a MacLeods

The chief of Clan MacLeod and his male relatives possess the vaunted "Viking" Y chromosome haplogroup, R1a. He is apparently so delighted with this proof of his formidable Norse ancestry that he invites Dr. Bryan Sykes of Oxford Ancestors to come visit the Isle of Skye on a regular basis. Below is his ancestral home on the north end of the island, Dunvegan Castle. There is a gift shop on the top floor, and in the basement there is a dungeon with artificial prisoners that moan electronically for the amusement of the tourists. There are also rooms full of MacLeod family artifacts, including an oil portrait of the present chief in which he resembles Al Pacino in late middle age.
