Gloomy Ruins At Urquhart Castle

Getting photos that conveyed the archetypal "gloomy solitude" of a ruined castle was difficult at the Urquhart site. The place was mobbed. A wedding was in progress at the same time that tourists from all nations were swarming about the castle like ants at a picnic. The visitor center itself was a veritable shopping center - anything from books on Picts to tartan plaids to shortbread was on sale. I managed to snap this during one of those rare instants in which no human bodies were passing across my field of vision, but almost immediately afterward the scene was obstructed once again by cheerful and chattering people. Oh, the humanity...
